I would have a hard time tossing the scanned slides also - but understand your space limitations. I have an Epson flatbed V200 scanner that I scan slides with. LOVE IT! Love it even more with my new computer that runs so much faster (didn't have any trouble with it working on the new Windows 7 OS either) My Epson is no longer available, but the V500 is pretty much the same unit. I looked up both the Epson and the Cano Scan on Amazon. Looks like both will scan 4 slides at once. I have done large batches (hundreds - not thousands though). It take a while, but if you leave a stack, and just swap them out while you are on the computer, you can get a lot done! I like reading the reviews on Amazon - gives great reviews from people that have actually used the unit. Both the Epson and the Canon have lots of reviews. Price is very similar. I like the Epson flat bed personally. You can scan documents or photos. I find it super handy just to copy a paper when needed. It is NOT an all in one. Just a flat bed scanner. But if I need a copy of a paper, I can just hit "copy" and it will scan and send it to my printer. I scan at 600dpi - which is plenty. Unless you are going to print somthing wall size, you don't need to use the super high settings. It will just make a huge file and take a long time to scan. Make sure you have a couple back up sources for you scans if you are going to dispose of the slides. DVD's can go bad - hard drive fail... I would use at least 2 different backup methods. Might look at the link below... if your scanner software shows it.. apply a little sharping too. Now lets compare the resolutions from the chart above to a film scan. The chart below lists the resulting output resolution of a standard 35mm slide or negative. If you compare a 2000 DPI film scan to the output resolutions of TVs and computer monitors you'll see that a 2000 DPI film scan is more than sufficient for viewing on your computer or television. I am tossing awful photos, unwanted photos and photos of people we don't even know as I go along. Some of them aren't as damaged, as much as they are just dark and need the lighting/contrast adjusted. Husband doesn't use a computer, nor do some of the people I want to share the hard copies with. I've got loads of pictures of our group of "besties" hanging out BC (before children) and afterward, as their children were growing up. They are all grandparents now and I think they would be tickled to share the photos of "mommy/daddy when she/he was your age" with their grandkids. A lot of them aren't on the computer. I'll send them copies and keep mine on a disc. Husband loves going through the old albums, especially family hunting and camping trips with his (now deceased) father, some of the trips we have taken over the years, family weddings and get-togethers. I want to put those photos back in albums for him. I think I will scan the photos and have a professional print the ones I want hard copies of.

OK, they just left. I am happy to say this finally brings my thread to its ending. I hope this thread ends up helping other people when they encounter issues during their install. While I may of vented here at times, I was never disrespectful to the company providing their services. Even today after they were done, we sat around, talked and drank some water I offered before they left. This was probably one of the nicest group of guys I have ever hired, unfortunately we ran into a lot of roadblocks. Not only was there some install quality issues, but I had 5 panels of glass that arrived with large factory defects that was completely out of their control. When you combine everything, it just felt like a lot to deal with. I will post up some final images. All flashing was done properly this time, and they redid the exterior trim and added wood behind the trim as before it was just hollow without support which is why it started separating. I am now happy and just wish this could of been done the first time. I just left my review for the company involved and gave them 5 stars. While it took 5 visits to get all this corrected, they never disrespected me, and always responded to everything. That is a sign of a good company. I told them I never tried to be difficult, but I wanted to be sure I protect my biggest investment which is my home.
