Look what Y'ALL went and did now...

For a LONG time I've admired toile stuff. But not being into dishes, I resisted buying any. Just loved looking at others dishes, and fabric they've used. One particular pattern always struck me as very lovely, a rooster one of course. LOL. I saw it in red n white, and black n white, and I especially loved the latter. Well, last night I just had to go on eBay and 'see' if they had it. Of course they did, eBay has dang near everything anyone could want!! I saw several individual dinner plates listed in blk n white with the rooster and was thinking I could buy one for my dish curio collectibles. Then I saw this 5 pc SET.....and I've bid on it now! So in about 3 days it just might be mine. Look what y'all did to me!

And that's not the half of it.

Then I started looking at the other toile plates and found two with HORSES! Well of course that was all it took for me to bid on them, and WIN. They are just the 8" plates and will go in my Curio with the other dish stuff of course. I should have known that I'd find a way to JUSTIFY buying some dishes! LOL

I hope you win your 5 pc set because we wouldn't want you to waste time being on Ebay and not winning the auction.LOL I really like both patterns but the plates with horses you won is my favorite. However I have two chickens or roosters that would go great with the other set. Sad, they are out in the shop and I don't remember which sex they are.

I like the toile dishes and don't own any at this time. I want to start off with what I have before I buy any so please STOP trying to tempt me. Just STOP it!!! Can hardly wait to hear if you win the next auction. I'm rootin' for you.

Pretty! Karen, I love toile, especially black and white. I am really taken with your horse plates because they have different scenes.

I saw the ones you are bidding on in a catalog. I remember admiring them, but (of course) can't recall *which* catalog. I think it was online, but who knows... I sure don't... LOL

Good luck, and forget about putting them away in the curio cab. They all sure would make a nice tablesetting.

Hi Moni, My gut feeling is that 2009's weather patterns will be similar to 2008's all over the state, with the following caveat: I think winter 08-09 will be colder than usual. So, that means colder than average and drier than average for the southernmost and panhandle counties and colder than average and wetter than average for everyone else. That's what I've been expecting for a couple of months now, but the lessening of rainfall in central OK kinda surprised me. And, you know, I could be 100% wrong. My "gut feeling" comes from watching the weather patterns across the US week in and week out, and from reading what I can about La Nina and El Nino and understanding how they affect us here. Since La Nina tends to bring southern OK drier than average weather, I was hoping for a return to strong El Nino patterns, which brings southern OK more rainfall, but instead, we have a neutral La Nina. Sunspot activity is also greatly diminished--almost nonexistent this year, and that factors into what the weather does too--if you believe the folks who publish the Old Farmer's Almanac. I've been waiting for Steve LaNore, the met at our local CBS affiliate to give us his prediction for southern OK's winter weather and he finally posted it on his blog either last week or the week before. I'll link it below and y'all can read his reasoning and predictions if you want to. For what it is worth, he pretty much agrees with me about what to expect here in southern OK....although his reasoning is built on science and probabilities and mine is mostly a gut feeling based on what little I know and understand about the weather. I cannot begin to explain how dry it is here. I have been watering, and have the highest water bills I've ever had in the cooler months to prove it, but everything is still bone dry. Every day I make water puddles for the wildlife and they come to drink at them morning, noon and night including deer, rabbits, racoons, possums, coyotes, bobcats, field mice, voles, etc. Our dogs and cats are so used to all the wild critters being around that they pretty much ignore them. Well, the bobcats, racoons and coyotes mostly come after dark, and all my animals are in either the house, chicken or guinea coop, or barn/garage by then. I feed the wild birds, and have more than ever before, including woodpeckers and flickers, blue jays, carolina chickadees, tufted titmice, etc. The crows, whom I've never been especially fond of, have become very territorial and have their own spot where I scatter grain for them. In return, they chase off every hawk, kite and kestrel that tries to lurk in the skies over our property. That's a good thing, because the predator birds will attack our poultry if given the chance. And, for what it is worth, my daffs are still chilling in the extra refrigerator in the garage. It isn't that I have forgotten them or that I don't care.....it is just so dry. (sigh) The area where I am going to plant them is very sandy, and I need to till it up, rototill in some organic material and get them planted soon. If I stand there in that spot and pour a glass of water onto the ground, it beads up and runs off....the ground is so dry, it cannot soak in. So, I clearly need to water that area well for a few days before I plant the daffs. One year I didn't plant until Jan. and still had blooms in March. Steve's blog entry with the forecast for colder/drier weather here in southern OK is linked below and I found it to be fascinating reading. It just amazes me how he looks at and analyzes everything that is going on and climbs out on a limb and makes a forecast. I need to read his later blog entries, but I am almost afraid to. I went to Arlington North store today. Thought I'd just get some of their granulated fertilizer for my azaleas next spring....yea, right! I brought home a Sweet Olive in a 6-7 gal. container. The fragrance just led me to it. They had smaller ones, but since I might be planting in my back yard with the dogs, I needed a plant that could stand up to them. sure did enjoy having it in the car with me. BTW I "heard" that one of their Houston area stores burned and they are trying to get cash. The rainy weekends this month didn't help...

Yes Annie, I totally "went off the wagon" diet wise this weekend, but we walked like 5+ miles each day. Back and forth to the hotel. That has to count for something! The chargrilled oysters are grilled in the half-shell, then drizzled with garlic butter and parm cheese. You would think this would overpower the oysters, but it didn't; they tasted like little grilled steaks. To die for! Usually I don't like my oysters messed with, just straight-up, raw on the half-shell, but these were sublime. I bought Uncle Bubba's cook book and he was there giving autographs, so I got it signed! It was worth it...some really good recipes in there and not as ooey-gooey as some of Paula's recipes.

Karen...this is too funny. I saw those plates on
Ebay. I too was looking for blk and white transferware. I'm deciding if maybe to go with that look, in my black hutch, for after the holidays.
I saw the horse ones too..and was thinking...of you.
I'm so glad you won! They are perfect for your collection.

That would have been funny,
if we bid against each other on the rooster plates,

I just saw the Seller on the toile horse plates has listed more. She has a set of 3, and then those 3 also listed individually. I'd only wanted the two by the way, tho I saw the 3rd one.
Slinkey, too funny you were there too, keeping an eye on me, huh? LOL. THAT must've been the little voice I heard whispering BID BID BID in my ear.

Tempted yet Punk? LOL,those "naughty pills" must work.

Syble, good thing I don't live near Chicago...LOL. I've seen that dog in other pictures. Its part of a pair and HUGE. I'd need a bigger house to add it to my collection.
LOL. Not that it could be shipped. Years ago, in the early 90s I think, they were around $500 each in a furniture store.

Its gotten worse, I saw this 8 inch salad plate and HAD to have it. I paid too much on top of that.

Those plates are just wonderful, Karen, and I hope you win them! Black and white, roosters, and toile - doesn't get much better than that! There are many times I'm just glad many vendors don't ship to Canada. In fact I try to avoid ebay or I'd have even more unpacked boxes than I do!

I love that last pic you posted of the horse and sleigh on the salad plate. That will look fabulous in a winter vignette.

I'm trying to control my plate and rooster addictions but it's not easy when I see such lovely ones as these.

I just love all your plates but you can't be done must be time to buy another cabinet to hold them. Jane is still buying and we know everyone here is always buying and then figuring out where to put them. Do you have any under your bed yet? If not there you go.

Jane, those dishes would look great in your hutch but I think it already looks great the way you decorated it. Don't bid against Karen or we'll have to take away your naughty pills.haha Remember "Spread the Love"

Luvs, I think roosters may be popular for toile. I've seen fabric with it too. I was shocked at finding the horses tho. The one with the sleigh is part of a set but the other pieces don't have a horse in them.

Punk, I have TEN china cabinets and curios. I need a bigger house. LOL. My collection of my dog statues is close to 300. My Trail of Painted Pony collection is around 120, at the moment. I haven't counted my rabbits. LOL. I have numerous small collections too. Then there's my Christmas "collections". Oh, wall space in my house generally refers to the area between frames. LOL. Luvs visited me in Jan when on a motorhome trip, she can testify to how how much stuff I've got.
So I definitely do NOT need to be collecting dishes now. My daughter is hoping I'll live forever, she sure doesn't want to deal with all this someday. Her two brothers would leave town. LOL.

Your latest plate has a scene I recognize. I have that toile in my bathroom -- love to see the sleigh zipping along.

I'm another who loves toile.
When I sold my home, the woman wanted my Bedding..because it matched the Window treatments and the Bathroom Wallpaper!
I told her where she could buy her own!! I was taking it with me..lol Right now, I have toile in my DR and BedRm..
and upstairs Guest Rm.. I think it's so timeless.

You're right, Rooster Toile Plates are very popular...
I think you'll really enjoy them..and WE want to see them!

Jane, you DO love toile! I don't think most of my collection works for vignette since it consists of hundreds of whippets, horses, and rabbits. LOL. Tho you are right, I could let something come out and play I guess.

Punk, my home is far from huge. At least compared to the folks I know here. Its about 2000 sq feet. I'm attaching a link to my album for my livingroom and familyroom area where most of the china cabinets are. I cram a lot into them! It'd be the same no matter what size house I had, LOL. I love too many things, and am an obsessive collector.
