phishing filter

What kind of a setting is reasonable for the phishing filter?

I have an HP with Vista (purchased with Vista not upgraded). It used to have Nortons and Webroot, but I changed to the security of our internet provider - Cox Cable (Authentium is their securitiy), and I turned on Window Defender.

Yesterday I called because the computer was really slow. They showed me how to repair it throught the Control Panel, and now it is ok, but not as fast as it was.

At the bottom of the screen , it is the phishing filter that keeps going on and on. I have clicked "turn on automatic website checking. I also have my security at medium high. Do you think that I have the phishing or security settings on to high, and that is why my computer is slow?

Sammy,

Is the security from your provider through their system or did they provide you with software to install on your system? If it is the prior I would recommend you still maintain an on-board anti-virus.

It is from the provider, but the phishing filter that I am talking about is part of the Internet Tools.

Downloading and installing Returnil is simple. If the above doesn't open the keylogger program...that simply means that "Keylogger" isn't on your computer. That does seem better, Zep516. Thanks. I had turned off the phishing filter,without noticing much difference, but disabling it improved the speed. I go to familiar websites for the most part and keep my anti-virus and anti-spyware software updated. Mikie, I could not switch to Apple, it's just not my cup of tea ;-) Pam

Do a general cleanup. To clean out unwanted files. Start - Control Panel - Internet Options open - Delete cookies, Delete files (select all off-line content) - Click OK to Exit. Then go to Start - Run - Enter %temp% - Click OK - Click Edit - Click Select All - Delete. Start - Run-Type - C:\windows\temp - OK - and select everything except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete them. Then Restart your computer. The above does the same as CCleaner. Then use the Defragmenter. Well, you can disable it by opening tools/internet options clicking on security tab and clicking on customize. I am not so sure I would do that though. Think I would live with the blinking, since it is security. Good Luck :-)Cat

My answer may benefit others. I have Vista that has programs of its own. Many of the Security provider's programs were duplicate including the spyware. The woman told me what to turn off and how to do it. The man yesterday told me I couldn't turn off the spyware, but I can. Now I only have the anti virus since Windows Vista provides everything else.

Vista only has a bi-directional firewall and Windows Defender. Is there something else you are perhaps expecting from Vista?

I politely repeat, I do not recommend to any user not to have an on-board AV.

Did you not see that I said I only have the Anti virus? I don't know what is on Vista and what is Internet Explorer or Windows, but I do have an anti phishing working and more than one pop up blockers. I have these after I turned them off of the security suite.

I freqently get the ongoing antiphish animation. It caused here by my blocking some advertizement url's. It doesnt seem to add any heat to anything or extra amounts of cpu so I just ignore it.

Phishing filter doesnt seem to have any security levels,, its either on or off ...or can be disabled for all sites or thing it might also be selectivly disabled on certain websites if you add them to the Trusted sights list.

Vista's internet explorer popup filter apparently works well as I rarely see any popups and thats the only popup blocker running here & set to Medium.
