Computer boggin down/stuck . What to do?

The other week I had problems with some malware. Through some friendly's guidance on here I installed Malwarebytes and the scan removed it. I currently have McAfee for my virus protection.

Everything was peachy keen then last night I went to run the Malwarebytes scan. I did update first. Needed to look something up online so I paused it, couldn't get online - computer locked up and I couldn't get it to shut down. Tried alt ctrl delete, pushed the power button, waited and waited finally *cringe* I pulled the plug as I didn't now what else to do. Rebooted and completed the scan. Everything was fine.

Today on and off things web pages were getting 'stuck' on and off. I just patiently waited for it to run it's course. I finally decided to listen to good ol' ITunes (no browsers were open) and the music kept stopping. Play for 30 seconds or so and stop.

What should I do? I'm not computer savvy. Does it have anything to do with McAfee? Or simply from me not shutting it down properly?

I think I would do a few reboots wait about 15 mins with it down then reboot do that at least 2 times to see if some of the settings might have got a big messed up.

also you might go to the event viewer and see if there are any red or yellow flags, if you have xp you can find event viewer in control panel> administrative tools> event viewer, there you will see various options you click on each one then open each in there you will see the logs look for red flags on those highlight each and double click for the code and info.

Unfortunately my sudden refusal to shutdown, seems to be quite regular. I click "Turn Off From the Start Menu" We get to the windows is now (closing)shutting down screen, the jingle plays...and we are not on nor off. Its Microsoft limbo hell. Mouse control has shut down. Can I delete .Net Framework 2.2 without hell to pay? My gut feeling is my problems are stemming from .net or the Merc board. The Merc board once shut down my Morrowind game and cancelled the tilde key assignment. Even Bethesda Softworks said there was nothing I could do. Ideazon support told me to upgrade my all keyboard drivers to hid, and that (unknowingly) knocked out the PS2 keyboard drivers used by the laser mouse assignments...it wasn't until I redownloaded the laser mouse drivers, did everything start to work. I can now cheat on my game to my hearts' content. (The tilde key brings up a game console where dirty little cheaters, like me, can enter codes to cheat.) This driver install and uninstall freeze with this crappy keyboard, that I'm stuck with to save money, is going to break me. It might have caused some problems. I had to reboot my computer from the default settings in bios. Although there was a warning on the Microsoft update site about one of .net updates rendering some computers unresponsive? Well! gee. I CANNOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE! I tried a few different restore points...and honest to Pete!...I got this message saying the system hadn't changed so they weren't going to bother, there wasn't any point!? I mean, I never!!! Great analogy DA! I live in NY and our house has been hit 3 times in 15 years. Last one was 4 years ago and it blew up every TV in the house. Six TVs. It hit the phone line travelled into my garage and blew up the FIOS box (was on fire) as was the garage wall. All TV's were unplugged, but not uncabled. Came through the cable and blew the TV's. Computers were spared because I ran around the house unplugging them and pulling out the cables. Everything happened so fast, I didn't get to all the TV's. Insurance covered the TV's only if I had the original receipts to prove what we paid. One TV was 15yrs old and we got nothing on it (worked perfectly before), our large screen was destroyed and they gave us 1/3 of what we paid. All the others were flat panel (13-17") and they gave us around $25.00 each. We had a $500.00 deductible so we got nothing. BTW, all the telephones were fried also. We went almost a month with no TV's and telephones before it was repaired. I wanted to shoot myself! Unplug those cables and forget surge protectors. A direct strike melts everything in its path. Seriously, Honestly? I go to the Gallery and spend hours and hours going over all the latest pictures that Oceanna posted. Today, a little over 3 hours at the Gallery (Gee, thanks Oceanna! *wink*). Got nothing, zippo, nada done. Way too many ideas doing Funny Car crashes in my grey matter for me to make a firm decision on my projects so might as well go look-see everyone elses projects. Actually, truth be told there is no name for my 'style'. Believe me, I've searched. No way to describe it online so that I can get a decent search going. Because there is no name for my style, I come to a point where I get stuck ----- (the fact that my ideas have to be done on a miniscule budget makes it all that more difficult.) Kitchen not finished --- going on 15 months. Backyard/Garden Decor not done --- going on 7 months. Family Room not done --- going on 20 months. Sunroom not done --- going on 28 months. Master Bedroom not done -- going on 9 months. (Won't count the Master bath because in all fairness, we just started it. But I'm sure I'll come to a grinding halt there, too.) Why? Because I'm stuck, can't make a decision and stick to it because I can't find ideas for what I see in my mind's eye. I know there's got to be inspiration out there for what I'm trying to create but so far, haven't found it. I get ideas, tips and opinions from all the talented folks here and put them into play and all starts looking good but to head to the finish line? Nope. Isn't happening. So, I go to all the neato new photos on the Gallery side, thanks to Oceanna, kill a ton of time and not get a thing accomplished. Then I feel guilty for not accomplishing anything and I start the whole process over again. Amity, who is heading over to the gallery, again. lol

On my parents computer right now because mine keeps 'not repsonding'.

Raven - I have Vista and can't seem to find the event viewer?

Zep - I'm on a netgear wireless router. The signal is strong.

From last night to this morning at least 4 times I've had my McAfee virus protection shut off. I'll have a box that says Your Computer is Not Protected. I'll open McAfee and click FIX and I'm ok again. Currently McAfee is not responding to open to correct that again.

Is there something deep in there that's just not showing up when the scans are run?

Still could be Malware issue we need to rule that out first can you do the thing below,

Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Â Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
Â By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Â Click on Install.
Â It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Â Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Â Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Â Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

I'm hoping I did this right. First I think I should mention:

After I clicked install I had a message pop up that said
"HJT appears to have been started from a temp folder. Since temp. folders tend to be emptied regularly it's wise to copy HJT.exe to a folder of its own, for instance C:Program Files\HiJackThis
This way, any back ups tht will be made of fixed items won't be lost. Please quite HJT & copy it to a separate folder 1st before fixing any items."

I didn't know how to do this..so I just clicked ok. I then clicked System Scan & save logfile button.... then received a message that said..
"For some reason your system denied write access to the hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HJT may NOT be able to fix this. If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. to do this, click start, run & type:
notepad C:\Windows\Systems32\drivers\etc\hosts
& press enter. find the line(s) hjt reports & delete them.
Save the files as 'hosts' (w/ quotes), & reboot.
For Vista (which is what I have) Simply, exit HJT, right click on the HJT icon, choose 'run as administrator'.

Wasn't sure what that was all about either so I clicked ok and then it scanned. The scan literally only took seconds. Is this normal? I didn't do anything else. I also still have all the notepad and the Trend Micro Hijack screen open. ? Here's what the notepad says...

Hmm.. Ok I'm in my event viewer. Thank you for the link Zep. I'm not really understanding what I'm doing in there but I'm in.

Under event viewer, custom views, admin events there are 5,363 events listed. Most are red the others are yellow. I clicked on the first red error and some info popped up but I don't know what to do with it. ? Looking under window logs, applications there's also some red and yellow going on. At least there I see some blue "information" ones as well.
