Just an FYI for those contemplating an upgrade to avast 7.

First, I recommend you check their forum out (forum.avast.com) to see what some are encountering. I have performed an in-place upgrade and wasn't happy with the results, so my experience matches that of some of the folks at avast's forum. I did however try a different approach on another machine, this time following the uninstall procedure on ver 6 and using their uninstall tool, then re-booted. I also searched out all avast folders on the hard drive and deleted them. I rebooted again and completed a custom install from scratch (read the options carefully!) - the results were much more satisfactory. Anyone who wants seamless. may wish to wait for the next release. There are a considerable number of things in this release that can be "tweaked" to suit your requirements.

Please note that Avast 7 will install the Google Chrome browser if you are not paying attention to the installation menu.

Experts recommend that the update setting on security programs be "automatic". With that setting, updates will be pushed out no less frequently than weekly and sometimes more often when needed. An out of date security program offers no security. Threats arise, get detected and then get described daily. Severe risks get pushed out right away. An out of date signature file is really looking for last year's/last month's problems instead of today's problems.

go to that webshield area like above and look where it says scanned count if that shows actual numbers as a count and not zero or if you go to pages and that number does change it is ok if it is not changing then there could be a problem. Do you have zone alarm by any chance? because for some of us there was a conflict and we had to change a proxy setting in our browsers when using Avast. There is a thread on here about that which may turn up on a search, I had posted the directions on how to set it up. This page from the Avast forum also tells how to do that. So, is the paid version of Avast going to provide a significant additional benefit to someone who is fairly knowledgeable about navigating on the Internet? In my opinion, no For someone running 3 machines and with your considerable knowledge I am quite surprised that you do not try MSE on one of those computers. It provides everything Avast and Malwarebytes have but is fully automatic - but you already are aware of that of course.

I just did the upgrade to Avast7 two days ago and it went smoothly...not a hiccup. This is on a computer running Vista.

I upgraded my XP machines without a problem. I didn't uninstall or remove anything.

from what I am now reading on the forums they have put out a fix for those that had problems and the new download of 7 will not have that problem.

However the chrome will install if you are not watching closely to de-select it during the install process.

Sadly, this seems to be all over the road at this point. From no problems at all to any problem imaginable. Latest forum posts talk of all Outlook email tagged as spam. I've abandoned the update-from-v6 route, a clean install seems to provide the best results for the ones I've either done or repaired.

I updated with no problem whatsoever. I already have Chrome browser (default), and contrary to some posts on the forum, there were no changes or problems with my settings at all.
