Both my husband and I have Avast on your computers. He is running Vista and I am running W7 64-bit. I updated Avast on 2/12/14, he updated 3/23/14. The programs are so different. His version is 7.0.1426, mine was updated 2/12/14 and I have version 2014.9.0.2016. The programs are so different. Mine has so many more features. Pic attached is the Avast on my Win7 machine.
Experts recommend that the update setting on security programs be "automatic". With that setting, updates will be pushed out no less frequently than weekly and sometimes more often when needed.
An out of date security program offers no security. Threats arise, get detected and then get described daily. Severe risks get pushed out right away. An out of date signature file is really looking for last year's/last month's problems instead of today's problems.
