Dell Laptop Lid Problem

Hi, I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron 1750. When I open it I have to keep moving the lid back and forth to make the picture on the screen appear. It goes blank or flickers and then I usually have to move the lid all the way back again which is not the position I would like. Does anyone know what could cause this? It's gotten kind of irritating. It has always done this..it's about three years old.

Most likely a loose cable connection to the motherboard, those are very small cables and difficult to get at. I'd consider taking it in for repair.

As Zep said, it's likely a loose or damaged cable between the motherboard and display. Depending on your skill level, it may require professional help.

I know but there seems to be so many users complaining about " will not recognize battery" issue, but I'm not sure if every case is in fact a non Dell battery issue. I just think if you purchase a Dell battery you would have a better leg to stand on if in fact you still had the issue with a new Dell battery and it could be possible, you know in case you had to call Dell. Right know if you call Dell there going to tell you that you're using the wrong battery. I would not doubt if there is a circuit on the mother board that detects the dell battery only and forces the user to buy Dell battery only----It's a guess...

Any sounds? Nothing on the screen indicates a problem not related to Windows because you're not even getting past the POST. Likely hardware related - could be lots of stuff - motherboard, video card, memory. You might try pulling the battery (and disconnecting it from the wall charger) and letting it sit for 30 minutes or so. If that doesn't work, try pulling the coin cell (CMOS battery) - it's and a small access door on the back of the machine and also (again) the main battery. Let it sit again. Maybe you get lucky.

It is definitely a matter for the professional..I wouldn't know where to start. I just read that a lot of people have had the same problem with these Dell lap tops. It's something that happened when they were manufactured. Two things were installed by mistake...forget what it was as I'm not mechanically inclined. I just wonder if it will eventually not show the screen display at all if not fixed.

With some brands/models, the cable is right underneath the plastic bezel between the keyboard and the lcd display..sounds like the cable they used was too short or not routed properly to have a bit of slack...
