Thanks for all of the help! I have contacted Tech Support again. I was told that the 1GB of RAM that the Laptop came with is really not enough to run Windows Vista--even though it is industry standard to sell the PC that way. I was advised to upgrade to 2GB. I was told that Compaq would send me a shipping box and I could send the laptop for them to check over and restore it to original--But isn't that what I have already done 3 times? One problem is that there are only 2 slots and the RAM that is in there is 2-512s-so that means buying 2-1GBs. Tech support doesn't list anything larger than the 512s-so sending it in isn't an option for RAM. My second problem is that every web site I go on to find the right Memory for this PC, doesn't list the Compaq Presario C700. The sites that list the C700 don't list the NR Model-so I'm not sure what to buy. I can't use the Memory Scanner (located on some sites)-because when I try to log the laptop onto the internet I get the not responding error message way before I ever get this far. So... as soon as I can figure out what to buy I guess I'll opt to upgrade the Memory? Is this likely to fix my problem?? Any input is appreciated. Thanks again!!

Thanks for your suggestions. Norton sites help buttons did not respond when I tried. To answer the question regarding version, the computer currently has the 2012 version and we were trying to install the updated 2013 version. The 2012 version is working again, however it will not do a live update and the 2013 version will not install. Our son is coming this weekend to fix the problem. What would senior citizens do without high tech children to bail them out even tho they may be in another city or state!! I would hire local computer help but our sons keep telling us not to. For those who aren't thrilled with Link Scanner or those who may just want to see how well AVG operates without it, it is not necessary to delete and reinstall. Double click on the icon appearing in the Notification Area/System Tray>In the appearing interface double click on the Link Scanner component>Uncheck the Enable the AVG Search-Shield (need web browser restart)>Click Save changes. I do not remember if a restart is required. I am sure AVG will advise if necessary. DA

beverly, try emptying all your cache and cookies and restarting your computer. One of my computers is always getting strange error messages from GW and will not let me post most of the time.
