Air tub vs whirlpool Jacuzzi brand Capella

My Jacuzzi corner whirlpool (Capella) has a slow leak. It is encased in tile and therefore the whole tub needs to be pulled out and replaced since they cannot get to the back jets to replace them.

I have had no issues with the functioning of the whirlpool and have thoroughly enjoyed it for 11 years.

The plumber mentioned the Jacuzzi air tub. He said it is much less maintainence, can be serviced from the access door only (i.e. would not need to pull the entire tube in future since their are no jets to leak)and gives a better message.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Capella Air tub by Jacuzzie? Any problems with this brand of air tub? The plumber said this brand and tub would be the least costly to replace my old tub with since the specs and dimensions are the same vs going with a different brand and having to demo the tile etc...

Is it true that they are less costly and easier to repair?

I do like the whirlpool jet action; will I still get some message effect with the air tub?

I would simply replace the tub with the whirlpool but I don't want to go through this same nightmare in 10 years again of having to pull the entire tub to fix a leak at a jet.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I would go with an air tub over a water jet type. And in my opinion, Bain is tops. This is their only focus, and they invented the air tub. And they have a very tight control over pricing, so dealers do not generally twist the rules to gain your sale so they do not lose the product line. You will not find great price differential from one place to another. So stick with a local dealer you like. And Bain will not honor the warrantys on some internet companies, so make sure you call them to find out if your dealer is indeed an authorized one. In regards to the actual warranty, you are correct, the cost will come in regutting to accomodate a new tub. For me, customer service matters, and I have had nothing but top performance from Bain. I had a issue with a motor, they just sent a new one. No questions, no proof of purchase, nothing, no issues, all they asked what the model number was. Some companies it is a royal pain in the butt to implement warranty claims. In regards to whether you like it or not, call Bain. They have dealers that have working (with water) air tubs on display. Find if one is in your area and see it in person.

seattlemamadrama ~Well my Wasauna story ended badly. The first tub was drained the wrong way for me. I shipped it back at their expense and received my replacement last week. The crate was in horrible condition, held together by plastic wrap about 2 times around it. The person who sent it to me must have received my tub and we just traded. I sent him one in perfect condition never removed from the crate. The tub he sent me was dirty, removed from the crate and damaged with scratches. I refused the delivery and call Alex for a refund. He tried to give me 300.00 off and get a new one sent to me but I just took my refund. I have not seen the credit on my card as yet, it has been 4 days. I would say stay away from them. I decided early on that if I had to choose, it would be jets. I'm no more worried about cleaning the modern style jet tubs than I would be about standing water in the drain pipes in the rest of the house. But the reason I wanted water jetted is that I have very specific back problems (resulting in constant sprains) and I find the forceful water movement helps with the muscle spasms that accompany the sprains. In the end, though, I didn't have to choose. We found a floor model Jason with BOTH air and water jets and compromised only a little (a couple of inches) in terms of overall design and space. For a mere $500 more than the Jacuzzi water jetted tub with heater that we were looking at, at Lowe's, we got BOTH the air jets and the water jets. I'm excited about the air jets because I won't have to fill the tub as much to use them, and they do feel delightful when I've experienced them at the store. Ours has two settings (low and high) for the air, and I've heard that the higher setting really is invigorating. So...maybe...you can have both?

Thanks. I have seen the drop in style that require a deck and I think that might be more difficult for bathing a child than the kind that look like a regular tub. I always bathed the baby in the kitchen sink until they couldn't fit.
