Help me find a sink that fits!

Our small powder room re-do is turning out to be a bit more challenging than I thought. I am pretty well set on the Toto Ultramax toilet, but now I'm having a hard time finding the right size sink. The sink that is there now is a wall-mount rectangular sink, 19" wide and 18" deep, in otherwords, quite small, and there isn't room for much bigger.

What I need is another small sink that matches the white of the toilet. While at the plumbing supply place, the guy suggested the St. Thomas Stafford Petite, linked below. I like the look of it and really wanted a pedestal sink, but when I got home, I realized the drain is in the floor, about 8" out from the wall and 7" over from the center of the sink. I don't think the Stafford pedestal will cover the pipe.

I can't seem to find any wall-mount sinks that work with those dimensions. Does anyone know of any, or have suggestions for where to look?

We had the same situation and ended up with the Kohler Escale, which we are happy with. It looks good with our Toto ultramax. Cost more than a basic pedestal, but I think the wall-mount makes better use of our less-than-four-feet-square space.

When I was shopping for sinks one of the plumbing supply places showed me a small pedestal sink. I can't remember the model, but I do remember he said that some of the small pedestals can also be mounted as wall sinks. That might be worth following up.

Thanks JSG! I really like the look of the Escale,and the size is perfecct. Of course it's a little pricier than I was planning, but isn't that the way it always is? Now I have to find a dealer, since the place I was planning to get the toilet doesn't carry Kohler. Any good online recommendations?

I'm curious what faucet you paired it with and where you put the soap. Did you mount a separate soap shelf somewhere?

Good luck with finding your sink grid. I would imagine you are going to have to find a generic grate. I would measure the inside dimensions and see what you can find from there. In the different strokes category...this is really similar dimension to my current sink and I am bummed out that I can not get the same type of sink in the Silgranit. To me it is the best of both worlds. Food scraps is all the small bowl is intended for.

Years ago at church rummage sale for 25 cents I picked up a narrow, maybe 6" wide, dish rack that suspends from the front and back of the sink. Is a few inches deep so holds things without them falling over or off. It's fabulous. I have been known to hang the dishcloth off the side, and it has little tabs that can poke out a little to hang things from. Unfortunately it's just white plastic, so is it gorgeous? No. Does it have a name so I could ever find another? No. Look for colanders, that will be your best, most useful, bet.

With an undermount sink, if you have a positive reveal, then there's no hidden grunge and you can still brush crumbs, etc., into the sink and have a more modern look. And, no edge to try to get crumbs, etc., out of b/c of the top mount frame. . If you want a two-bowl sink, then consider a 70/30 split instead of 50/50. Even in a 36" sink base a 50/50 results in bowls too big for smaller work and too small for larger work (like washing pots & pans without having to maneuver the item around to get it clean and without splashing everywhere!) My DH also insisted on a two-bowl sink so we got a 70/30 and he loves it! The smaller side is perfect for soaking silverware, filling a pot, etc. The larger size fits all our pots & pans (including handles), cookie sheets, bins & shelves from refrigerator (except the 36" wide shelf), our Vent-A-Hood insert, etc. The interior (i.e., usable) size of our sink bowls: Large: 21.5"W x 18.75"D x 9" deep Small: 10.5"W x 16"D x 7" deep However, mine is an undermount. I suggest getting a similar as a top-mount/drop-in, if that's what you prefer. Note: With a solid surface counter, you can have an integrated sink -- no gunk! BTW...I'm with your DH and mine, I don't like large single-bowl sinks. They require either a dish bin (that has to be stored somewhere when not in use and I don't have extra storage space) or wasting a lot of water if you try to fill it as-is. Our larger bowl fits everything I need it to fit! But, I do not like 50/50 -- we had that in our old Kitchen (see my comment above about our issues.)

I was looking for a narrower floor sitting console also and would you believe??? found one at Walmart.com. They had one just the right size. From the height of your television you might look for words like credenza, console, or even buffet? You need one that sits about 6 inches and not more than 9 inches lower than your television low point on the wall, and 12 to 14 inches deep, I am guessing you hope to find...Does it need to hold anything electronic? Dimensions for that would be?? Is that stuff supposed to be behind doors or on open shelves, ideally? As close as your furniture appears to be, it need not be any wider than your television, but probably could be as much as 6 inches narrower?(3 inches on each side, in)than your television. Share with us the dimensions from the floor, and the width of your television and likely someone will find what you can choose from. You might give the price range you can consider, also?

Sorry, can't help with the online sources. We bought through the same local dealer who sold us our Toto. We did pay less than the list price you see on the Kohler website. We priced it at the local Kohler showroom, too. It was a little bit cheaper there, but we decided to go for the convenience of buying toilet and sink from the same people.

We bought the faucet pictured with the sink on the Kohler website. I shopped around a bit--hoping to save money--but places like Home Depot and Lowes didn't even have single-hole lavatory faucets. Some of the ones I found online seemed like they would be bigger than the Kohler one, and I thought the proportions might be wrong, so I went with the recommended one. That I did buy online, for a lot less than the list price, I think. I could dig up the name if you need it.

Right now I have liquid soap in there. There is room on the sink, next to the faucet. You could put a bar of soap there, maybe on one of those little spiky "soap saver" things. There isn't room for a real soap dish. I know because I bought one that is the perfect color, and it won't fit. I've been thinking of putting up a little glass shelf to hold a soap dish, but I haven't gotten to the glass store to check the feasibility of getting a wall-mounted shelf that small. There are wall-mounted soap dishes, but it's impossible to find little shelves upon which can put a separate soap dish, if you see what I mean.

The integrated towel bar is nice--at least you don't have to find one and mount it.

Next job is to find a pretty basket or something to hold extra towels and toilet paper.
