Image too big - please help

Sorry I am not very tech savvy. I downloaded a picture (JPEG) from my digital camera that I want to post on one of the forums. However, the image is 1.85 MG. How do I make it small enough to post?

OK the first thing to do is save it a second time so the original does not get messed up.

Open Paint - click Start, All programs, Accessories, Paint

In Paint click File, Open. Now locate the photo and open it.
Click File, Save as... add a number if it is a word or a letter if it is numerical and click to save. Your image will be jpg, do not alter this.

Now click Image, Attributes. Now you have a small window with 2 sets of numbers, these are width and height. Assuming you are allowed this set the larger number to 640 and the smaller to 480 so you don not lose the 4 X 3 ratio and save. Done.

another option is to get the very cool little powertoy for xp assuming you have xp of course, if you have vista there is an alternate one for it.

here is the xp resizer powertoy link, with it you will now have a new item when you right click a picture, a resizer you just click the size you want and it creates a new version of the pic in the new size.

Even in granite, needing a 62" slab may limit your choices somewhat. The granite we chose usually comes in smaller slabs so at first we thought our island would have to have a seam. The color was really perfect for us and there was nothing else that we liked nearly as much. Given a choice between choosing another material, changing the size of our island (which we chose for very functional reasons) and having a seam in our island, we would have had a seam in the island. It sounds like that's the breakdown on your choices too. We lucked out and the slab yard found some at another of their locations that were big enough for us so we don't have a seam. About half the fabricators are fine with a seam at a sink and about half don't like to seam there. Also, some seam locations might work better for support at your overhang or may use the material more efficiently. It's best to work with your fabricator on those issues.

Heather- In your second photo it is not next to the door, and the fireplace is not a problem. So you just have to decide whether you would rather have it in the living room or the bedroom. I would not get a sectional. They do not solve any problems, they just make make more, as they are oversized pieces of furniture themselves, and your room is not that large. You could keep your eyes peeled for two comfy chairs to face the sofa that are on casters or to which you could add casters, so that if you and your guests are watching a movie, they could just re-position their chairs so they can also enjoy the show. You also need and end table for in between the two chairs, and at the sides of the sofa. And after you get the chairs, hit the tag sales for some great large trays or TV tables for your popcorn and wings!

If your top overhangs the cabinet by 1 1/2" which is standard, 3/4" cabinet thickness, and 1" for the sink flange leaves you at 3 1/4". You can shrink that by another 5/8" if you rabbet the top of the cabinet to accommodate the sink flange. I've had front rails as thin as 2 3/8". They look and function better than a big fat 4"er. Fabricators aren't wild about this because they don't want to get blamed if your tip out drawer becomes unusable so they put everything at 4" tip outs or not. I'd take a nice skinny rail over a tip out drawer any day. I'm junking tip outs for apron front sinks constantly. Do not let your fabricator clip that sink please. Even with his fat front rail, he doesn't have room for clips where they're needed most. There isn't a stanchion between the bowls so you've got steel on the flat. With side and rear clips, that's a guaranteed leaker and that can blow your reinforcement rod (cracks the top until it literally jumps off) if you've got natural stone (Saw one today). (2) Sink Straps from Regent Stone Products please. Insist. Steel on the flat cannot deflect and leak when strapped unless the laws of physics are different in your area. You'll have no problem reaching your faucet.

You also download Ifranview. It lets you resize a photo to a number of sizes.

If you do not have Photo Scape or Picassa3 you really should download one of these Free programs then you can size the way you want it and do so much more....

Not sure if you know this - but you have to upload it to a photo hosting website to be able to post it to the forums - you can't upload directly from your computer to a GardenWeb forum.

Many here use PhotoBucket or TinyPic

Thank you all. I will download on of the resizers and open a PhotoBucket account. I should be able to handle that. Thank you again, I would be stuck without you!
