Why does my page not load??

Hello,

I have Windows XP and I use IE6. When I go to a page it is slow loading but I live in the country and have dial up so that is like always. How ever it tells me done and then it just shows a white page and then a couple minutes later it shows that it is downloading from the site. Any clues why it is doing that?

I know I have no virus or spyware on here and plenty of memory left.

Is this with all web pages or just a few? If a few then those pages might have large images on them.

What you might learn to do is use the tabs feature if you use IE7 or Firefox. That way you can open your first page but before settling down to read it decide on the next page and open that in a separate tab so it can be downloading while you are studying the first one. Sometimes I will have 4 or 5 tabs open so I can jump back and forth. Two at least on this site when it gets into it's slow motion

Could be the ads. Today this site was bad my firewall was blocking doubleclick and others here :-(

Yes, I've been having that problem for the last few days too. It's the background not working right. And when I say background I mean the color at the top of the page, where the adds are located. Sometimes all of the threads are jammed into the right half of the screen. I just hit F5 a bunch of times and it fixes itself. Very annoying!!

Can't load my own ISP's web page

I have one of my email accounts with my ISP. I currently can receive mail but not send it. I am sure the problem is with a setting. I need to get to the ISP website to look up the proper settings. My phone company is a co-op. I don't think they merge with anyone. They have been here to stay since 1953. Locally owned. I did manage to connect using a proxy service. Firefox problem - many pages not loading

YOu should uninstall and reinstall Firefox it sounds like you got a corrupted file some where in your profile. you can keep a copy of your bookmarks.html file if you already had it loaded in, just save it to your desktop then when you re install firefox import that file that you exported out earlier. I am not on 3 right now but normally it is bookmarks, organize bookmarks, file, export and then the same to import. there is a vulnerability in 3.03 but they are already working on it and will probably send out an update today or tomorrow it they have not done it already in the nightlies.

Pages loading slowly and/or timing out

Thanks azinoh, All 4 packets were sent/received. Round trip times: Min - 73ms Max - 80 ms Avg - 75 ms I broke down and phone my ISP. They're sending someone tomorrow. Her supervisor told her that my modem shows that it is online but is not "passing". I asked what that meant and she said she'd gotten a smart answer when she asked her supervisor the same thing. Thanks again for helping me. I'll let you know what happens.

Berk,

I am on dial-up and I am having the same issues. I recently started having them here and everywhere else I go.

My Yahoo messenger tries and tries to log in, and finally announces that there is a problem, and I'm asked if I want to try again, and again, and again, until I finally just give up.

I have 2 different dial-up ISPs (Long story), and they are both doing it. I log off, and keep trying until things get better...sometimes they do, and often they don't, until maybe hours later.

Anywho...I really think the problem is with my phone line, as I have been having static on it intermittently lately.

Attempting to open several pages at once (using Firefox) does sometimes help....but sometimes none of them will load...so it is log off time then.

Have you noticed any phone line noise?

Hello, me again. I have this problem on all sites I visit. Now this morning it loaded right up when I got on here???? My phone lines are fine so I know it isn't that. I am just hoping nothing is wrong with my computer.

Pages here occasionally will hang for me for a bit.. but usually its just an advertisement.. the url to the ad is what I've noticed more often than not is what hangs,,, and the way they've coded pages sometimes those ads connections need to either download or that ads connections needs to time out before the rest of the page will load.

Glad to hear it is ok this AM.

I might add, that often there is phone noise that the person on the other end can hear, but I can't hear it at all. I 'know' then that it is my line because more than one caller will tell me the exact same thing.

Hopefully you won't have it again though.
