Why does my page not load??

Hello,

I have Windows XP and I use IE6. When I go to a page it is slow loading but I live in the country and have dial up so that is like always. How ever it tells me done and then it just shows a white page and then a couple minutes later it shows that it is downloading from the site. Any clues why it is doing that?

I know I have no virus or spyware on here and plenty of memory left.

Is this with all web pages or just a few? If a few then those pages might have large images on them.

What you might learn to do is use the tabs feature if you use IE7 or Firefox. That way you can open your first page but before settling down to read it decide on the next page and open that in a separate tab so it can be downloading while you are studying the first one. Sometimes I will have 4 or 5 tabs open so I can jump back and forth. Two at least on this site when it gets into it's slow motion

Could be the ads. Today this site was bad my firewall was blocking doubleclick and others here :-(

he might have changed the resolution of your monitor or changed the dpi settings, try making an adjustment there and see if it helps, Personally I would call him back and demand he return and restore the pc to the same settings it was when he got there, there is no reason for him to change those kinds of settings and if he does he should then put them back how you prefer them. right click on your desktop in a clear area then choose properties, there will be several tabs at the top, the themes may be the one you are talking about he may have changed your theme, go to the TAB that says settings, on the screen resolution area you can change that by sliding the slider, click on the advanced button there and on the General tab change the DPI settings to Large, you will need to hit ok and apply for each change you make.

do you happen to still have the paper work that came with it like the directions and the instructions manual that will have all your default info in it and how to reset it. If not look on the bottom for the model and google that you should be able to go to the manufacturer site and find the manuals. Did you set up your router originally with it connected to a desktop computer, in other words which pc did you install the software on? The router is setup on the family PC not my Laptop. Unplugging the router (and modem if one) itself from power and powering down all the computers, then power up the modem if you have cable first then after a while power up the router and once it is fully up then power up the various computers, often makes a big difference. I think we have a modem and a router for Xbox and laptops. are you just using the Vista built in firewall? Yes.I'm using the windows firewall. what are you using is it cable or dsl or what for internet? My son says it's cable/DSL internet. have you done all your windows updates? Yes.Except for three optional ones. I'm confused about resetting the router. That would be on the main computer. Will this help my laptop internet connection?

Thanks everyone, I plead ignorance with the computer. My husband usually takes care of things and if he's too busy, I just have to deal with the frustration. "Registry Fix" is a program that cleans up your computer.....removes history, duplicate files, and "optimizes computer health and performance". It repairs problems. (quit laughing). :) I'll show my husband your suggestions and hopefully we can get this working better. We did switch from dial-up to using an at&t thing you plug into the side of the PC's monitor, which gives us wireless. It has definitely sped up things, but is it possible its causing some of these problems? Thanks so much for your help!

Oh absolutely you need to do those other updates, adobe and java are so important to keep updated, the worst infections we see these days come from not having updated those items. For flash you must install it on each of the browsers on your pc, there's a special version for IE, and the non Ie version for the others like firefox and chrome etc, if you need help with any of these please ask, but by all means do those updates as soon as they come out. Be sure you only have the latest version of java get rid of the old versions. When they put out updates it is almost always due to a security issue.

Berk,

I am on dial-up and I am having the same issues. I recently started having them here and everywhere else I go.

My Yahoo messenger tries and tries to log in, and finally announces that there is a problem, and I'm asked if I want to try again, and again, and again, until I finally just give up.

I have 2 different dial-up ISPs (Long story), and they are both doing it. I log off, and keep trying until things get better...sometimes they do, and often they don't, until maybe hours later.

Anywho...I really think the problem is with my phone line, as I have been having static on it intermittently lately.

Attempting to open several pages at once (using Firefox) does sometimes help....but sometimes none of them will load...so it is log off time then.

Have you noticed any phone line noise?

Hello, me again. I have this problem on all sites I visit. Now this morning it loaded right up when I got on here???? My phone lines are fine so I know it isn't that. I am just hoping nothing is wrong with my computer.

Pages here occasionally will hang for me for a bit.. but usually its just an advertisement.. the url to the ad is what I've noticed more often than not is what hangs,,, and the way they've coded pages sometimes those ads connections need to either download or that ads connections needs to time out before the rest of the page will load.

Glad to hear it is ok this AM.

I might add, that often there is phone noise that the person on the other end can hear, but I can't hear it at all. I 'know' then that it is my line because more than one caller will tell me the exact same thing.

Hopefully you won't have it again though.
