Unwanted question box keeps appearing.

I read the local paper in the PDF version on my XP computer. For many months all went smoothly. Now, a box pops up before I can open each page. The top says File Download. Then the question comes next: Do you want to open or save this file? Open, save and cancel are my only options. Other information in the box gives the name, the type--Adobe reader, 971KB, and "from" information. If I cancel the box the pages won't open. How can I stop this forced choice box to stop appearing?

It's asking you if you want your adobe reader to open it for you...the answer would be yes! make sure your adobe is updated also..

I have read my paper for months without this pesky box. I trust the newspaper site and I want this box gone. It is just another annoying step before each page appears, and my DSL, computer and whatever else affects download time of PDF files takes enough time. I absolutely hate having to stop and check yes before each and every page. Why is this question appearing now? Did Adobe recently update something to "protect" me further?

a few thoughts to add to this excellect discussion. Does no one add sand? I've heard pros & cons. Also when you bury manure deeper than 8 inches it naturally mixes in with the soil well even if it's fresh. different animals produce manure with differnt nutrients. fowl from turkey and chicken farms and processing plants are super high in nitrogen but will grown giant greens and broccoli or burn up everything. You can get horse manure from stables and people who keep horses. Sheep and cow stuff from dairies and slaughter houses. Check with 4-H they can tell you who is raising animals and would love to get rid of all kinds of poop. I get great leaf mold in the fall when people leave bags of leaves on curbs in plastic bags. the leaves age just fine left alone in the bags all winter long. I've had difficulty with large amounts of pete moss in that it blows around quickly. If you can get neighbors un treated lawn clippings they are very good with some extra nitrogen.

It appears Google had this answer. I did a basic search using the keywords "AVG WinZip" (sans quotes) and I readily found a link providing: "Please note that the WinZip setup tries to install AVG Security Toolbar and sets AVG secure search as your browser homepage. To avoid installing the toolbar, please choose custom installation during the setup and uncheck "Set, keep and protect AVG Secure Search as my homepage", "Set, keep and protect AVG Secure Search as my default search provider" and "Install AVG Security Toolbar" options." Based on the above, if it were me with this concern I would remove WinZip using REVO at the advanced setting. When doing so I would give it permission to remove anything it finds relating to WinZip. I would then run CCleaner's registry tool for any orphan entries. Finally, I would reinstall WinZip following the above instructions. DA

When cleaning out my sister's apartment I gathered enough jewelry to fill 2 1/2 small flat bins used to store Christmas bulbs. She loved costume jewelry, so many clip earings, some that I remember she wore when I was a child like chandilier earings. Rings, watches, bracelets, brooches. Some pieces are good. She ordered some from shopping channels. The jewelry I cared most about finding was my Grandmother's wedding ring set that my sister wore but couldn't find it. We put a lot of clothing items in the apartment's recydling room before we realized a few days later we should have checked pockets. I have been slowly going through the jewelry and bought a magnet to help decipher what may be gold or silver. One thing I plan on doing with some of the earings is to make some wall art. My friend made a beautiful Christmas tree on velvet that she framed using her Mom's jewelry. You can also get some tall styrophone cones or cardboard cones and wrap them in velvet and cover them with pieces. So beautiful. You can also make some bouquets of jewelly flowers with some pieces.

Help! Travertine BS has unwanted pink undertone!

ellendi - Thank you for your kind words. I talked to a interior designer friend of mine after I posted. She said absolutely don't change anything until the floors go in later this week. The grey cast from the cement slab may very well be adding to the undertone of the travertine. Another friend stopped by this evening to take a peek and said that looking directly at the BS, she didn't see any pink. However, when she looked directly at the two areas where the existing paint meets the top of the BS (no wall cabinet above) she did see where the coloring got funky...meaning in addition to the cement cast, the existing paint color, although it never looked out of place before, may very well be causing the travertine to change tone in those two areas - which just so happens are the two areas that have bugged me the most and looked the most off in shading. Because it came from someone else other than the crazy wife, DH actually sounded receptive to repainting the downstairs so it can be better suited color wise with the kitchen, which sounds like to me is more than likely going to have to be painted to better suit the BS. There is hope yet--this option sounds much better than pulling the whole thing out - which I don't know if that would even be an option with the DH. :D blubird- Thank you for sharing your experience. I have previously moistened it with a wet towel and it did take on a darker tone - I just wasn't sure if it was enhancing the pink tones as well. Although I purchased one and it's ready to go, I am going to hold off on using an enhancing sealer until the floor is in and then also possibly until after any painting is done. I am almost positive the paint color needs to be changed so I might as well have those constants in place before I enhance the travertine part of the BS. Which enhancer did you use? I purchased Miracle Sealants Company 'Seal and Enhance.' I checked out the reviews and it seemed like a good product although I am always open to suggestions!

Couple of ideas. Pick any .pdf file on your computer. If you can't find one just search *.pdf. Right click on the file name and choose "Open With...". When the dialog box opens, select the version of Acrobat you have and make sure the little check box is check in the lower left corner that says something about "always use this program."

There's also a setting somewhere in your browser that tells it how to handle various document types. The exact process varies by browser but you want to look in tools, options, or preferences.

I despise Adobe reader it is so often the gaping hole that lets infections in, I use pdf xchange reader got rid of adobe on all of my computers and am much happier. Another good option is Sumatra both are free.

I would just rid myself of adobe and use one of those. If you run into uninstall problems using add remove then you can try it while in safe mode or use revo uninstaller free version

The paper sends the info as a PDF file. If the paper uses Adobe will I be able to read it in XChange or Sumatra? I didn't find "a little check box in the lower left corner."

Sumatra reads PDF files so yes it will work fine.

This morning, when I booted up, Adobe sent a reminder that an update was available for their reader. I figured I couldn't be any more unhappy with their stuff so I allowed it to download. I just logged on to my newspaper and THE DREADED QUESTION BOX IS GONE! Maybe Adobe had a hiccup, didn't bother to excuse itself, and sent a fix in the guise of an update?

if you are choosing to keep adobe products on your pc do yourself a huge favor and check weekly for updates because seriously it has been one of the major sources for infection and is why they are constantly putting out updates and patches, again one of the reasons I deleted it and use a less well known and less bloated one. Using the OSI scanner is a great way to make sure you have all your stuff updated so you are much more secure.

Sumatra PDF Viewer 1.3, keeping in mind that I don't intuit very well?

I personally have not tried Sumatra but know many that do use it, I use PDF xchange and have found it quite easy to use.
