Vinyl tile flooring question

I would like to use quality vinyl tile in my guest bath. I am just starting my research. I was introduced to a Mannington commercial product called Designer Essentials vinyl composition tiles that come in 12x12. Is anyone familiar with this product upkeep etc.? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not with that particular product, but I think that on the whole, sheet vinyl is considered preferable to tile for situations where water may stand on the floor for a while, like baths.

the success of your installation will be directly dependent upon the stability of the surface (existing flooring material) you are installing over. the best way is to remove the existing flooring and start from scratch. laying over existing may be possible, but you need to remove any lose existing flooring and patch any voids with a good flooring grade patching compound like Ardex sd-f (featherfinish), sand/scrape and repeat until flat and smooth, but this is no guarantee against future issues as any failure of existing willresult in failure of the new flooring. If any of this confuses you, I recommend consulting a flooring professional to take a look at your exisitng flooring and ask for recommendations.

...Your in a rough spot. Maybe a good airstep by Congo Loose laid vinyl over top with some embossing. starting to come loose. If you are two layers of tile...you should be able to do a double build up and get it about dead nuts than feather any difference and again use a loose laid that way if any tiles loose their integrity, your floor will not be ruined.....you probably would hardly notice.

Thanks so much, mahindroo! We used the arrows to face the same direction too...maybe it has something to do with the following the slight grain in the tile? Oh well, it's done & looks nice enough! Only DH & I would think installing a floor on our Anniversary is romantic...LOL

Removal of the vinyl and installation of an approved flooring underlayment panel is not an option? I had similar problems with calcium carbonate (gypsum) based floor patches and skimcoats. We used to add a latex admixture to the product to improve the adhesive properties and help it to bond to problem substrates. I have no idea what the Skim Coat product is made from. Is it white or gray? Sounds to me that you have a poor bond between the Skim Coat product and the vinyl. Perhaps the vinyl in that area is contaminated with something that won't allow the Skim Coat to bond well. That's about all I can comment on here. Perhaps another person will come in with some advice for you. What does Armstrong say?
