since the changes, my pages don't jump here

I have been experiencing the pages at GW jumping, and trying to read them was almost impossible, thought I had it solved once only to return. Have stayed away somewhat in the interim, and was pleasantly surprised today when decided to see what the gurus here were up to.
What a lovely looking site, much better than the previous one, and of course, to have the pages hold still to be able to read without trying to wrassle the mouse is just wonderful. Kudus to the management, finally sumpin good!

It was a bit of a shock. I immediately checked other sites to see if it was just my PC. There seems to be more scrolling. Didn't the text used to go all the way over to both sides?

I like the new presentation. The other was getting drab. Nice job GW.

At 7:30 a.m. the text was justified in the middle producing a greeting card presentation. Right now, at least at the system I am at, it is justified left as it should be. Never saw any "jumping" as reported by S101.

DistressedWife, this husband of yours has problems and he is using you to make himself feel better about himself. That's what I think. He feels better after he has chastised you, belittled you. He wants to set the rules. I think that he needs a good kick up the arse but not by you. He's not worth a kick up the arse. I know he was your best friend and I suppose you were his best friend but now that you are married, he no longer seems to see you that way. You are his wife. He feels entitled. Well, he's wrong. But he won't know or think he's wrong. He's got a lot of growing up to do and that is his problem. Your problem is him, and a little bit you. (You need to build up your self esteem.) You have to get brave. Get yourself organised, pack your stuff, and get out to a better place. Your father's house seems like a good option. Take some control of your life and you will feel that you have some control. I wouldn't do this when he is around. Wait until he's gone out. He won't want you to have control over your life. And of course he'll want you back. He wants you as his underling. He is not fit to be your husband. Maybe one day he will be. But only he can fix himself. The longer you are away from him, the more likely he is to be motivated to do so. My de facto husband does bot believe in marriage, that's why he and I never married. He thinks that when people marry, they change. I think he is right. Life is about changing our minds. I changed my mind about ever wanting to marry my de facto. You might change your mind about never wanting a divorce. Or you might decide to stop wanting to work at your marriage when you are the only one doing so. For it takes two, to make a marriage work, and at the moment he has no intention. You can't change him but you can change you. And your predicament. All the best. And I'll be sending good vibes your way.

Thanks, that helps. I love that you are the impetus for Aqua. My painter friend loved it, BTW. I got the idea that it was a version of Gustavian Grey from Ellen's own description on her website... (shoutout ahead) "Aqua (for walls and ceiling) is a darker version of Gustavian Grey, yet lighter than Oasis, which crosses that fine line between blue and green. Therefore, it is both healing and soothing, yet rejuvenatingÂa popular new color for 2007 according to color consultant Lori Sawaya!" She says the same thing about Oasis. Someone else here, and I'm sorry I can't remember who now, says that Oasis reads very neutral in her bathroom (and it's her only EK room she feels "meh" about.) That statement surprised me because the chip looked very green to me -- but when I painted my board I can see exactly what she means. I would bet she has a north-lit bathroom! But then again if you put it or Aqua next to blue (say, the Azure) it reads much more green. Aqua looks amazing up next to my print of Georgia O'Keffe "Poppy" because of the aqua she uses in the background. I may have to do the mud room aqua and hang that print there. Interestingly the GG looks fantastic in the bathroom, especially with the Cameo, and doesn't dull down in the room like the Oasis and Aqua do. So my short list for bath and bedroom at this point are: -Cameo & GG -some type of Eggplant/Aubergine (plus something else?) -Browns... Cognac and Bronze? I love Mushroom and Sand too. Or go even deeper - Citron Lick the Bowl? Maybe cool blue bedding and Azure ceiling, maybe this is how I can do my blue and brown. I don't see browns in "Rose" and wonder how they come into play.

You asked for advice, so I am going to tell you that your responses to your neighbor have been aggressive and provocative. Your reactions to the neighbor have added to the conflict. Your goal should instead be to give neutral or calming responses. Snookums2 gave you examples of these. Nan-E-Fan gave you away of thinking of the situation that protects you from thinking that by changing your responses to this family you are "wimping out" or acting like you are weak. By keeping calm and responding to exactly what is said, you keep control of the situation. The woman says, "my husband says he saw you letting your dog pee on our lawn." You say, "I don't let my dog pee on the individual lawns, he only goes on the common area." If the neighbor does not know where the common area is, this gives them the opportunity to ask, "where is this common area?" If the neighbor, instead, insists that you do let your dog pee on her lawn, you ask her to take a picture of it. If she says that she has no camera, remind them of their cell phones or tell her to get a cheep disposable. Or offer to pay half for a disposable. This shows that you are concerned for their issue (you don't really have to be concerned, but acting like you are keeps the peace). By remaining calm, you keep the power in the relationship. If they start getting accusatory toward you, or start complaining to the townhouse management, you can calmly say, "I told them that I only use the common area and asked them to photograph the dog using their lawn as a toilet. I even offered to share the cost of a disposable camera. They never did anything to prove it was my dog, they just continue to harass me every time they see me outside." Or if you can remain calm when they harass you, then YOU can go to management and complain about their treatment of you. It takes practice to remain calm and to learn to respond only to the words people are saying to you. What you have been doing is responding to the emotion behind what the neighbor is saying and making assumptions about what she is staying. Your assumption has been, "This family has something against me and my family." By having this assumption in the background, based on your first few interactions with this family, you have been working from an assumption that you are at war because this other family has decided you are. Nothing could go right after this assumption was made. That is why I suggest that you concentrate only on the words that are said. It keeps you focused on your goal of remaining calm and responding to the situation and the concerns that the person is bringing up. It is too late for you to make this relationship start out right, but you can work on calming it down. That will give you practice for future relationships with other people. I had to do this when I found myself getting all upset talking with insurance companies and the like on the phone. After one set of phone calls when I got mad and frustrated and yelled at the person on the other end of the phone, my eyesight went all wonky. It was like looking through a kaleidoscope that was turning. I thought I was going blind! Through the little bits of clearness, I waited through my dial-up internet and slow page loads and figured out that I was having an ocular migraine. I did not need to go to the ER, but I should see an ophthalmologist soon. So I called my eye doc and they got me in the next day. What is one cause of an ocular migraine? Stress. What else does stress do? Cause high blood pressure and other heart disease, contribute toward diabetes and other diseases. Gotta lower stress!

Bumble - Thanks for posting photos of your room. It's very pretty! I love the red and white bedding and those plates. Hey Rrs! I had a bunch of different bedroom threads over the last few weeks so I'll recap on everything... I kept the last red coverlet. Haven't found a mirror or any art. I moved my nightstand to DH's side and have a round table on mine. Santa is bringing me a burlap tablecloth so I'm excited about that. I still need to get a glass top. Since I lost my storage, I bought a neat basket for under the bed but getting organized seems to be a bit challenging for me. I'll be tackling that head on during the new year. I'm going to paint the room SW Dromedary Camel probably in a few months. No change with curtains. I'm leaning towards something brown and machine washable but I should probably paint first. I now have a larger floral pillow to replace the one that's on the bed but I'd like to get a fluffier insert. Feather maybe? The smaller pillow that was on the bed in the photos above now sits on the web chair in the corner of the room. I was considering moving the chair out and getting a bench for in front of the window but I'm thinking it will take up too much space. I need to do a mock up with something. I'm not sure if I talked about the bathroom in this thread but, just to recap in one spot, I'm still planning on using the floral fabric for the window valance. The shower curtain is on hold until more of the original fabric comes in. So the floral fabric will be on the valance part and the body will be a smaller houndstooth. I decided not to use that calico corner plaid or the one from house fabrics. Both I think would compete too much with the floral and be too busy for me. Didn't paint the bathroom vanity or walls yet. See the original houndstooth plaid pillows with buttons from the inspiration pic? I accidently stumbled across 3/4 yard of that on fabricguru the other day and ordered it. I still much prefer that fabric and, without going into great detail about my poor experience(s) with NH again, I'll probably have mixed emotions when it shows up but one of two things will happen... 1. I'll be able to add a piece of that wonderful fabric to the bed in a pillow or throw or 2. I'll see red and won't be able to stand looking at it on a daily basis. I'm aiming for #1. But please, please don't somebody go and find a bunch of yardage of the large houndstooth now trying to be nice. I don't want to see it because the pillows (all but the solid red) I have stay. I have too much money invested in this. Heck, it may not work at all but we'll see. The fabric should be here in a few days and I'm pretty excited about it. Ha, did you want to know that much? :) Thanks for asking!

I have a 25" monitor, for a reason since I have visual problems, now with this new format I have a small center part of the screen being used and with in that the text is extremely small and I can barely read it.
they will have to do something to accommodate people with vision problems.
What a waste of my nice big monitor.

That's my situation as well. I'm hoping since they're on http://graphics.gardenweb.com/graphics/css/all-new4.css they're still tweaking it. So... I'll be patient and wait. :)

Never thought of that. I did zoom to 125% on this IE9 as a test on this 19 inch. There was great improvement as to visualization. The only open area now is to the right where the ads use to be.

I'm probably overlooking it but I don't see what percentage I've zoomed in(using Firefox). Thanks for the idea, it does help a lot.

I also made the center area(main-frame) have a slightly darker background using Stylish. Too much white hurts my eyes. I'm happy with it for now.

chuggerguy, I have all of my pages a pastel color, usually a soft blue or an light orange color. Anything that is not so bright. The only thing I can't change is the first page on WLM. It's a very bright white.

Thank you Emma. I'm not very good with color, and often stick with silver or grey since they match anything. I have no clue about WLM, truthfully, I pretty much always use Linux. ^.^

I'm on my laptop, and what a shock when I opened the GW site. I thought I had done something wrong. Have to agree that I like it. Now to see what it looks like on my desktop monitor.

Yes I have had to of course use zoom feature for easier viewing but I suspect it is not formatted well for larger monitors. You really shouldn't have to be zooming on websites to comfortably view.

I don't mind the other changes. The starkness is something I can tweak, others may not be able to depending on browsers options.
On my tablets using Firefox for Android I am finding different sizes of fonts in different people's replies which is odd and I have no idea why that would happen. One person may have the normal size font and the next reply by someone else will be tiny, then someone else may be large. Odd.

I like the new "look", but would prefer a background other than white. It's hard on the eyes after reading for a while.

Probably to the Gardenweb coders disgust but...

Font size brought up to 18px, center section widened, backgrounds made to be easier on my eyes. I think it's a better fit for my 16x9 monitor without resorting to having to zoom.

Boring? Yes. More usable? For me it is.

Color That Site! 0.15

In Firefox, go to Tools > Options > Content and click on Colors button.

Select grey for the "Background", and clear the checkboxes near "Allow pages to choose their own colours, instead of my selections above" and "Use system colours". Click ok

I finally found a benefit to my lazy, laid back surfing position.

I normally sit back from the monitor, slouched in the chair, and my feet up on the left side of the computer desk. Other than sometimes boring me sites like this with the white presentation don't bother me.

My eyes have always been overly sensitive to bright lights, now with cataracts it's much worse. Colored backgrounds help a lot.

I like it for the most part. I am not crazy about the white page, but, it can be changed, however, that would change it for other places for me, and I prefer not to have to do that. I am also not thrilled with everything so centered. I am sure they will be tweaking it though, once all the comments are in, so they know which features they need to work on. I do like the design at the top.

I used the Firefox(probably available for Chrome too?) add-on called Stylish. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/

I wrote this CSS(Cascading Style Sheet) to make it suit "me". CSS is what Gardenweb used to make it look their way. :)

I'm not a programmer, just a do-it-yourselfer so I'm quite certain my code is not optimal... but it works good enough for me.

If you want to try it, after installing Stylish, open a gardenweb.com page, select "Write new style -> For gardenweb.com", name it something like "Style Gardenweb" and paste this in, replacing what's already there. http://www.chuggerguy.com/pub/styleGardenweb.txt (Not the link, the text pointed to by the link)

The background image I use for the center zone is hosted by me so you may want to change that, just in case I tire of it and change it, my machine dies, I die, or whatever. :)

Of course you might just want to parse though it, take what you find useful, and leave the rest.

Edited to add the video(If you don't see it, your browser doesn't do HTML5). You can right click and select view full screen if it's too small to see. Turning on my personal styling makes... a wee bit of a difference.
