No problems with v9.0.791. The link below will take you to the change log for the current version and if you wish you can look at the change logs of the prior versions released since your 8.5 via the side bar offering. I have had AVG on this system since I purchased it three years ago and have never been mandated to have Yahoo on it. As far as the XP firewall, it has been recommended for some time that a user replace that firewall, which is one-way, to an alternative two-way firewall. If you were to go to free.grisoft.com and look at the page that compares free versus the paid version you'll see mainly that the paid version offers additional protection for spyware, maybe popups, and rootkits. There's other programs that offer spyware protection and rootkit searches available for free. Urlee... no they dont accumulate, they replace old with new files.

I haven't gotten notification yet, but will DL when I do. I really like AVG because it works well and updates are quick an easy, and most important it doesn't clog my computer and slow it down. I hate Norton too, Caroline, and McCaffee was no better. They seemed so invasive they might as well have been viruses themselves. Sandy

usually what has been said is that you can shut everything but explorer and systray. The reason many times it tells you to install in safe mode is because in safe mode all those "running Processes" are not yet running like they are in normal start up mode so therefore you do not have to do all the shut down of the running stuff. I generally just make sure there are no obvious programs running, I shut my browsers, close all email applications, if it says to shut down specific programs I do that, if it says disconnect from internet I do that. The rest I leave alone. I would guess everyone has their own method.
