Snow Puff and Snow Flakes...Need ideas

I looked at the inspiration album and it gave me a few good ideas, but do any of you have some old pictures of how you used the "Snow Puff" and the fake "snow flakes?"

I'll be using the flakes in jars where it will be contained.

I have an idea where to use the snow puff (like a big cotton ball you pull apart) but I don't know exactly how to use it to make it look like snow instead of cotton balls. lol

Any ideas or PICTURES would be great!

After the way my spider webs turned out in my Halloween decorating I think I better let others help you out here.LOL Do you plan on using the "Snow Puff" with a village or just with decorations?

I haven't taken as many pictures as I should but hope to do better this year. Hope others will help you out on this issue.

Gosh Oak, the only ideas I find are the ones in our inspiration albums usually. I'm not very creative, just a good "copier". There wasn't anything in the Misc Christmas album? I've only used the snow stuff with my village and in china cabinet under figurines. I do plan to use the flakes in a cloche this year.

I too have an Ariens Snow Thrower with a Tecumseh engine. I am a mechanical schmuck -- my father was an aircraft mechanic and I picked up more than a few things from him in the past but by no means am I an expert when it comes to these little engines. I have a kid that is a highly trained motorcycle repairman. I have a brother who used to service Hueys. My snow thrower ran like a top for 2-3 years -- no problems. Two years ago it started to surge -- this problem progressively got a bit worse. My snow thrower use has been quite limited all things considered. My first thought was the carburetor. My son and I disassembled the cowlings and detached the carb. Suffice to say it all looked like it was new. (it should have looked like new -- probably operated less than 20-30 times total). Ian rebuilt the carburetor. New gaskets/seals. Net effect: Nothing changed -- nothing at all. My brother suggested running straight sea foam (higher octane) -- this too failed to improve things a bit. Then my brother suggested we spray gas (with a spritzer) on various areas on the assembly while the engine was running -- if the surging stopped, that would suggest there was an air leak. I told him he was certifiable -- spray gas on a hot manifold??? Well after much argument, we sprayed carb cleaner as previously suggested with the engine running and low and behold, the problem resolved -- temporarily. Spraying the front of the carburetor seemed to get the best results. So it appears the problem is an air leak. Why would an air leak manifest over three years after purchase? An air leak will make an engine run lean. Wonderful! Now I have one more issue to resolve. Where the heck is the air leak? (bangs head on the desk). Nope, I cannot identify this new phantom. Sorry, I didn't solve your problem here but this is a real issue, it is not the choke, the carb, the old gas, or many other of the well intentioned suggestions. It is likely caused by an air leak. Now if anyone can tell me how to identify this air leak I would be most appreciative and I suspect others might benefit from information of that nature as well. I got a bad feeling that I will have to replace the entire carburetor -- just bet this is a manufacturing defect. mjc

I laughed so hard reading this my husband woke-up in the other room and thought I went crasy(I don't laugh much) When I first started reading I thought well this must be someone who doesn't have to get up and out and gone by 6am. I don't, not because I'm a work at home or retired,but I work seasonaly.But still sorry to say I love to shovel snow.My husband says when I shovel I'm a loly-gager.I don't push my self to huffing and puffing but I do get over heated.I'II even go out at midnight if its piling-up and shovel.It's amazing at night.When I look out at 5pm and see the rest of the neibours coming home and can't get into their drive ways I smile.But I do remind my husband how good he has it.Our driveway is 400 ft and has four parking spots and a turn -around. Plus I shovel a path to the garbage can,the propane tank and a path to the barn. I make sure the out door plug-in cord is visable and easy for him to get at too.I don't want a hero cookie.But I bet the guys down the street wish I belonged to them ,at least during the winter. I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!

Karen, I looked at the Christmas and Cloche albums last night and didn't see anything. I'll check again to see if I can find another album. Thanks!

Phonegirl, I wish I had a village. I have a set of 8 beautiful ceramic Santas that Dillards sold about 20 years ago, one from different countries & how those countries "see" Santa. I want to set those on "snow" along with other decor.

I just don't know how to make it look like snow.

Oh, did I tell you all I have two left hands and no imagination? :)

Not sure what look you are looking for but I use the 'buffalo snow' for my villages - my base is always styrofaom blocks and a white sheet covering everything - then I add the houses, lights and trees, ect and then fill in around with the snow - I just pull it apart, tuck it in and around everything an then fluff it to look as natual as possible - drifts and piles. I will use white headed straight pins to keep it in place if need be. This is a close up of a couple scenes of my houses as an example .....

Your santas sound so neat and will be looking forward to seeing your collection. I love shopping at Dillards but everything is so expensive unless you can but it on sale.

Lynne, your pictures look great. I am going to set up DGD's village some day but I'm sure it won't be this year. I bought her a pink church last year and was thinking about asking to borrow it for the office this year.

Karen, I really like the scene in the pan and the last picture is really neat. You may have me trying something new this year. These posts really have a way of inspiring!!! Now I need to find the talent.

I don't know anything about what you are asking :^) (does that ever seem to matter to me???? I just rattle on)
but I use angel hair (the new kind that isn't itchy) for snow in all of my scenes. It works wonderfully well and is not expensive. I purchased my stash at Joann Fabs after Christmas one year. You can str...e...t...c..h.. it out and make it thinner and webby-er, or you can pouf it up for hills.

Purple, you say you skimmed thru the Christmas Album and the centerpiece( I take it you are referring to another album) HOW do you do that. Comments have been posted before about looking in albums....don't know where or how to do that....PLEASE HELP ME ....I wanna look tooo!

Oldcrafty, here's the link to the 'front page' of our Inspiration albums on Photobucket. To the side you will a list of topics (the different holidays and such), you click on one of those. If you click on Christmas, the main album comes up which is all trees. But there are sub albums listed for things like mantels, villages, etc and you can click on any of those to browse them.

Let me know if you need more info or help.

Timely topic as I just bot 2 packages of Buffalo Snow and wasn't sure what to do with it! Thanks, lynnencfan, for your instructions, I'll just pull, tuck, and fluff and hope it works as well for me - love your display.

Jaybird, thanks for the tip about the new non-itchy angel hair. I'll look for that as I love how it looks, especially in your display with the lights under.

I did some crafts a few years ago using Diamond vase filler, and some faux snow from Michaels and WM and vowed 'never again'. I may use what I have left in an apothecary tho to keep it contained as it is very pretty (as in Karen's last pic), just not when it's all over every surface and the floors!
