I know this is a real late, late comment, but you guys rock! I am just starting a cacti and succulent garden, here in Adelaide, South Australia. We are lucky enough to have the perfect climate and soils for all cacti and succulents. You all gotta come live in Australia... everyone thinks gardening is really cool, and you are the ultimate if you specialize. Our garden centres are always packed out on weekends and holidays...no-one thinks it's strange for kids to be gardening. Everyone actively encourages their kids to do it, and they're really thankful if they like it... (tasty home veggies!) Our versions of the garden and hardware stores sell heaps of gardening tools and stuff sized for toddlers! You've never seen cute until you've seen a hoe, spade, pitchfork and wheelbarrow for four year olds. Do you guys get stuff like that? We have a sort of 'cult of the backyard' thing happening. Teenagers get a kick out of making it look like Bali or whatever, and generally take an interest. Unless they are Barbie and Ken dolls, who watch Kardashians and don't take an interest in anything except fake tans... but shhh! We don't like to talk about them, and generally take pains to keep it quiet! LOL

I like the plant there, but I don't think you really need anything else. To my eye, the clock balances out the plant. I originally thought a basket or pottery jug might work, but I think it would compete with the clock and risk looking cluttered. However, if you feel you need something else to personalize the space and add a pop of color, a long, low profile sign might work, probably propped up on a plate stand or something. I think I'd try to avoid anything tall enough to obscure the trim, though. Maybe cut out paper to get a visual on what size works, then find an etsy seller who does custom work if you don't find anything you like. Our Entry is two storey and the adjacent LR and DR have 12 foot ceilings. We've staged the Entry as sort of a gallery. Throughout, several large art pieces have been and hung so as to celebrate the height and to view them from afar - though some posters here have disagreed with my placement. Adjoining walls in the Entry and LR are painted the same accent color. I cannot capture everything into one photo but a collection of room scenes are linked below. Cindy - Sorry - I don't have any pics to share for your question - however - IF you are going to put a trim panel on the wall to take some of the "beating" that kids (and "kidadults" like me - a KID trapped in an ADULT's BODY...) will be dishing out - I'd offer you this suggestion: For the trim/fascia panel - take a look at using "FRP" (Fibre Re-Inforced Plastic) sheething - it is used in high traffic areas in place of ceramic tile. It is waterproof, comes in sheets that are 48" x 96" x 1/16" to 1/8" thick -in white & almond - and has a crackled or crystal looking texture - some are called "Pebble Embossed" too - it's way easy to keep clean, and you can glue it to the drywall. You can purchase this FRP at most large home improvement centers or lumber yards. I googled "FRP" and came up with a whole slew of products and sources - I have attached one link for you to look at to see what I am describing.
