Win7 mail

I am using a Windows 7 64bit laptop.

I never did DL the Windows Live Mail recommended for it.

My server is using gmail.

How do I (or should I) get my server to be my default mail?

And, once default, can I change it to be WLM if and when installed?

Reason is: I can not send documents directly from MS Word to an email recipient until I get a default mail.

If you like gmail, why don't you set it as your default mail? In
"mail settings", under tab "accounts and imports" there is an option to set gmail as your default mail.

camp, I really do NOT like gmail but have to use it to access the mail accounts I have that I used to access smoothly via Outlook Express on WinXP.
With dialup, I have to wait for ever for gmail to load and be able to open my mail.
I think you answered my first part OK. Thanks.
I assume if I DL'd and installed WLM, it would ask at the time if I would want it to be my default mail then.
BUT-----Would that only be for on this computer or affect my other computer and make it default also automatically?

This may be due to a failure of confirmation that the email was already delivered, somewhere in the email delivery process. This may be at any point between the first sending from your computer, or the final delivery on the server. I don't think I'd worry unless it's occurring all the time. You can Google duplicate E -Mail and see if that sheds any light. duplicate e mail --yahoo '' ' ' --- G mail etc

urlee Apparently my default mail is Windstream. Windstream is my ISP and has been for several years. I will go to their web site and try to change that. No, leave that as is. My ISP is my default mail too! When you downloaded WLM, did you have to enter info from your server like incoming pop3, and outgoing smtp? I am guessing that is what makes WLM work as default to my knowledge. because when the Windows Live software was downloaded, what I got was a Hot Mail address Are you sure you downloaded WLM for Win7 and NOT the Hotmail one?. If so, then it looks like your hotmail one went default on you like it did me automatically before.

My windows 7 did not come with an email program. I just looked through my programs and there is something called windows mail, but there is no email software in the folder. I had to download my email and it had that huge tool bar on top like word has and I hated it. I finally set up the quick access bar and that worked for me. A few months back I reformatted and could not find what I had been using. I found windows live mail and it was very much like OE. I can add background music in it.

It would only affect this computer. Your XP would still use OE as its default mail program, if that is what you use on it.
