Building a Home

It's starting to look like a real house now (pics inside)

In four days our build transformed into a house. Last Tuesday was paint, Wednesday was the 1st coat of hardwood stain and Friday afternoon cabinetry was installed. It is really starting to look like a real house now...our house. We have a tentative closing date of July 6th. I guess that probably means the week after that in GC terms. Ha. Enjoy the pics...

Househappy-your house is gorgeous!! It's starting to look like HOME!! Would you mind sharing your cabinet stain and wall paint colors? I have a similar floor plan. I only hope mine turns out as well as yours has!

Thanks Bobby for the inspiration!!! I just put 2 bushels of potatoes I dug into storage so have plenty of tasty potatoes to work with. I am seeing some "all but the kitchen sink" soup getting made today. (I call it all but the kitchen sink because I just add what ever I can find, usually ham, carrots, onions, celery, bacon, sour cream, ham, cream cheese, velvetta, cheddar cheese, milk and butter.) I loved the red but I guess that's the way it gos. I'd quit screwing with it. The place is lovely. Neutral taupe will NOT sell a home. DH's home in TExas was on the market for six years painted in builder beige. I painted the kitchen yellow, accented the living room in the same yellow (butter color...the rooms were connected) the dining room red, the master bedroom in a deep blue and the master bath in a softer powder blue, the guest room got a green accent wall, very very deep olive, and the library was painted a gray/lavendar tone with a darker accent wall in the same color. It sold one week later....his realtor advised against anything but builder beige and neutrals....he was wrong. Done right (yours is) color is great. Done wrong...ie sponge painted pink that was in our house when we purchased...it's a killer to a sale. Quit fussing and realize that your realtor might just not know everything. :) IF things don't move or you get commnts to the opposite over the next month or so, consider changes, but right now, you have a home that will show well with color. To drab up that dining room with beige would be a very big mistake! (if you do that you have a boring room with boring carpet frankly...that color makes the room). I've sold several homes...NEVER have I sold a home with beige or neutrals. My homes ALWAYS move faster than the comps in the neighborhood. I know what I'm talking about. :) My last condo sold with a chocolate wall in the living room, blue bedroom, green bedroom, and yes, a bit of taupe in the living and kitchen. My DH"s condo I did in a seafoam as the "neutral" with caramel and terracotta accents. It sold very quickly as well :)

Well I have not updated in a few days because I have been too busy to have a chance. The latest for today; the pool will be plastered and completed tomorrow, making it a three week project. The landscaping and gutters for the house were completed today. The marcite was delivered from supplier today and will be installed tomorrow. We start filling the pool tomorrow after marcite and will be swimming over the weekend. I will post some pictures tonight of the progress as of today and then I will start a new post tomorrow or Friday with the completed pictures of the pool. It just depends on how long the water fill up takes. It has been very time consuming and hard work doing it myself, but totally worth it in the end, especially to have it completed in 3 weeks. Can't wait for the weekend! :-)

maxibella, the short answer on standard numbers of open houses is: there aren't any set standards. the longer answer is: IF you have an aggressive Realtor, open houses should be something they look forward to. The down side is- due to both Buyer and Seller agents, the sitting OH Realtor loses much control of the Open House. Buyers waltz through stating "they" have a Realtor, and whomever is hosting the Open's hands are tied. The listing Agent must follow up with the Buyer's Agent and well, it's the follow up on not only OH's but showings that grades a Realtor. OH's are great for hungry start up Realtor's so,,,,have as many as you can. It says Nothing about being desperate; let no Realtor ever state that. OH's benefit Realtors....period. Why? because unfortunately Open's normally won't bring the sale, but they can offer potential Buyers to the sitting Realtor. which brings me to igloochic :) I was hoping you'd respond because you are normal. Isn't that great to hear!? On a broad sense it's true that we humans make lists of likes and dislikes and then we compromise. see,,, normal. so, when it comes to buying that largest purchase most of us will ever make,,,,at decision time all kinds of priorities change. you like me won't buy that Bi-Level, but we might just settle on baseboard heat. ha-ha you get my point. best to both of you.

It looks beautiful, I love your colors and that trey ceiling in the master! All of the details make it yours, and it is lovely. Your cabs are really nice, I love the stain. Good luck finishing up!

Like everyone here I just love the colors in your "home". I was color challenged so did everything in a beiges and cremes. I figure once I move in I'll let my home tell me which colors it wants on each wall.

Thanks to all of you for your nice compliments. I truly agonized over paint colors, stain choices, etc. It is so difficult to find the right colors based upon a 2 inch square. I didn't have the heart to buy all of those little jars of sample paint. I knew since everything was white and my furniture wasn't there it probably wouldn't help me anyway. I have been so nervous about my choices (especially the blue). I am so glad other people think they look nice too.

Homebase: I was hoping you would find this update. Any progress with yours?

Lindybarts: about 2.5 weeks...hopefully closing on the 6th!

Main wall color in GR/KR: SW Blonde
Kitchen wall color: Porter Paint Delta Green (thanks kygirl---SW actually matched it for me b/c that's where the painter contracts)
Dining Room and Laundry: SW/Duron Spanish Brown (part of George Washington Historical color collection)
Master Bedroom: SW Jubilee

Kitchen Cabinet stain: Minwax Red Mahogany
Floor: 2" oak with Minwax Early American stain (only one coat applied thus far)

Again, thank you for the compliments. This website has been a great resource for me so I'm happy to share whatever I can. To us, it has gone from new build to a real house. I can't wait for it to become our home. Home, to me, is where my family is. In three weeks, that is where we will be, and it will finally be HOME!
