system 32 and mshtml

I just tried to right click and save a picture. It said it is in System 32 mshtml and that I am missing it...and I need to reinstall if it isn't there...how do I do that? XP Profession edition...

And this is a new computer...if it isn't there "why" wouldn't it be there?

It should be there, mshtml.dll is a Microsoft Html Viewer Dynamic Link Library
It will look like this:

The reason you can't see it in your picture is because it needs to say All Files instead of Help files.
I don't see how it could disappear.
Right clicking a picture to save shouldn't say It said it is in System 32 mshtml
I guess if you're really missing mshtml.dll, you could copy the one in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and paste it into System32

I made me a folder in My Documents and named it Animations. Then in OE I put my mouse on the picture and then right click on it and then click on Save Picture As. A box then pops up and you will see (Save In) on the top left hand corner with a small white rectangle type box and next to it an arrow. Click on the arrow and find My Documents and there find the named folder that you created. Double click on that folder and then at the bottom of the box you will see File Name with numbers inside that small white rectangled box and next to that it will say Save. Click on Save and it will go into that folder. That is how I do it instead of having all of that in My Pictures. It is just my preference and easy for me to find when I want to use the animation. You should be able to do that with any of those pictures that are emailed to you also. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions. thirdfrt!!!

Linked below is a short description of what kernel32.dll is, just so you know it's job. Regarding Ccleaner I would run it to remove instantly rather than in 'Analyse' mode. CCleaner has been around a while and is a well respected little gem so you would be at no risk but your peace of mind might be restored. Regarding the slowness perhaps run an online free scan and see what they find. You could use either BitDefender, Symantec, Housecall or any other of your choice. Do not fall for spending money if you use another program that will 'fix' your problems for $$$ Also perhaps go to PC Pitstop and run a tune up test. Click on any red or yellow flags at completion and read the comments. Again do not click where money is asked for. Hi maybe, No, No, I would strongly suggest uninstalling AVG completely using a special link that I have and can provide for you if you decide to do it. Part of installing errors / problems with MSE can and do result if there are other security programs on the computer. I'd like to see you get MSE back that's what you had and you're use to it. The process includes this: First you download MSE to the desktop, that is the setup file like every program has. Once the set up file is on the desktop you would run the AVG unistaller that I would provide a link for. Once Avg is removed by the special installer you then go back to the MSE set up file you downloaded Earlier and double click it to install it. If you decide to work on this I have time, I would like to see a hijackthis log first before we start. I would provide those instructions and all other instructions to successfully do this for you.

it seems to be related to having OE6 and IE7 and with xp sp2. this is a work around. Right-click the embedded image as you normally would, but instead of choosing Save as..., choose Copy. Then open MS Paint, go to the Edit menu and select Paste. That should paste the image into Paint, and then you can save it. (You could probably use any photo program) Best fix quit using IE and move to firefox problem solved. I found this on another forum from someone who had contacted MS about the problem Quote: I went to a different Microsoft site and, using the Contact Us feature, wrote and reported the problem. I assured them it was a Windows issue, that the problem occurred sometime after I'd done an update, and that I wasn't going to pay for them to correct a problem they created. Eventually I received an e-mail from them that said there's sometimes an incompatibility problem between IE7 and some computers and/or third-party programs. To correct I'd have to remove IE7. Here's the procedure, in case it'll be helpful to some of you:-- 1. Click Start, click Run, type "APPWIZ.CPL"(without quotation marks) and press Enter 2. Check Show updates on the top. 3. In Add/Remove Programs list, select Windows Internet Explorer 7 and remove it 4. Restart the computer. After that, please verify if the issue is resolved. The moment the computer rebooted, I discovered the problem was solved and I could save embedded images I'd been unable to while IE7 was in the system. end quote. Try deleting IE's cache from Tools, Internet Options, click the Delete Files button under Temporary Internet Files. Go back to the site where you were saving the 'pics' from and try right clicking them and choose 'Save Image As' These were pictures on websites? not in email? this problem is normally in email pictures and it is a pretty old bug, have you done all your IE updates? As Randy said don't bother trying to find the file because it does not exist, MS knows this and has some articles about it but no fix listed that I have found other than uninstalling IE7.

I took that picture into the computer store where I bought my computer and the techs there really didn't know about that file...they said my problem was IE7 and that they told me in the first place not to put it on my computer, but I have it and don't want to mess taking it off. So...you think that file is probably there only not under this part of system32? I work with a lot of gif.s and photos and this is the first one I have had trouble with and it was sent to me from a Kodak site.

You could do a search for the file.
Start/ Search/ For Files or Folders/ All Files and Folders, and type in> mshtml
It should come up in C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

Yes, the mshtml file is connected to Internet Explorer.
What type of file extension is on the Kodak file that was sent to you?

You maybe might want to look in folder options and show hidden and system... system32 folder is packed jamb'd with files.

perhaps System file checker will fix it if corrupted or something, if you can run it.
SFC /ScanOnce
followed by a reboot... and then it will run when windows starts .. and it may ask for your windows CD.

Maybee, if the mshtml.dll file is all you need, you can download it here

At RapidShare, scroll down and click on "Free." Then follow the instructions. Let me know if you have any problems. Make sure you download to your Windows > System32 directory.

Hi - I am having the exact same problem and error message. Only started with IE7 installation. If I do a system restore to before I installed it - will I get IE6 back? Thanks, Debbie.

You'll have to go to the Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs and remove IE7, then you'll be left with IE6.

Randy - I went to Control panel but when I didn't see IE6 listed - I got scared that I would be left with nothing. So I tried going back to before IE7 and it worked. Now I don't get that message anymore and I can save pics again.

Did I do any damage I don't realize ?? Because now neither one is listed in the control panel. Thanks so much, Debbie.

In the computer store, they told me that it was probably an IE 7 problem and that they "told" me not to get IE 7 and I went ahead and got it anyway (true) My feeling is that we are going to have to go to IE 7 eventually, so why not do it now. If you roll back to IE 6, you have to also go in and delete the update where you went to 7 (my understanding)
So..I came home and sent that e-mail that had been sent to me back to myself. When I received it from myself, I was able to save it.

They also got onto me about wanting to know how these things work...well, I "do" want to understand this stuff. They said, "You drive your car to town, don't you? Do you want to know just how it works?" Well, if something was wrong with it, I would want to know how it worked...

The tech said he didn't have mshtml on his computer either...I'm going to now go and check files and folders and see if it is indeed on my computer....

It "is" indeed where it is supposed to be...now, that doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence in the techs at my computer store...I think they should have spotted what randy spotted in the fact that I didn't have "all files" opened. Why it wouldn't open until I sent it back "might" be an IE7 problem....or it might be the program from which my friend sent the pictures in the first place. I might try sending one of them back to her just to see that I didn't corrupt them by doing it the way I did.

I don't know if it helps, but I searched my computer for mshtml and the little bloodhound found that string in 12 places.

It'll be right there in System32 and no it's not hidden.

I wouldn't expect the techs to know every dll file in windows xp pro. Nothing wrong with IE7.

Debbie, you'll be fine. Don't know why IE is not listed now. It's been a while since I did it but after removing IE7, IE6 shows up. I guess the only way to find out now is to install IE7 and then remove it the way you're supposed to or restore again and see if IE7 comes back.

They were wanting me to replace IE7 with IE6, but I have IE7 and don't have any complaints about it (now that I've said that outloud, I probably will) They told me to go to Install/uninstall and when I uninstalled IE 7, IE 6 would then be there. But...it is my understanding that you also need to go and uncheck updates for IE7 or it will keep coming back....I'm "skeered" to do all of that....

The tech went into the back where his computer is and looked for mshtml on the internet...he didn't "think" of doing a search. Bob...it showed up about that many times on my search also. But...I didn't think of doing a search either, but I'm not in the business of supposing to know these things.

I wonder why so many people are having trouble with IE7? I installed it 'way back when' and never had a problem with it. I don't use it often, but when I do it works fine.
Why are some computers affected and others, not?
