do you love your Kohler white acrylic bathtub?

Marched down to the store to buy the white Kohler Bancroft acrylic tub and the sales person said many are not happy with the quality? tends to chip and discolor?

he tried to sell us something else that was similar price.

So many folks have Kohler... what do you think?

Is there sort of like A, B, and C grade acrylic that Kohler uses so some are better quality than others?

I do love mine and I use it for a shower every day and it looks brand new after 1 year plus. Use the search box here for the words Archer tub and I think you'll find lots of compliments for that one by Kohler.
When I had confusion with Swanstone I called the PR department phone number (or maybe emailed?) from their website and got great information about their materials. Try Kohler company headquarters to ask your question about acrylic grades.

We have the Kohler Devonshire acrylic tub, and really like it. Quality seems very good. It's nice and deep, too.

pamelas_kitchen: Were I able to propose this repair, I would have you acknowledge an email that your tub is ruined, so that any repair attempts I made could not be held against me. With that out of the way, I'd try to abrade the scratches away and buff to match the existing finish. It may require some fill; I'd attempt some color matched methelmethacrylate. Of course, I may sand right through the acrylic and the tub is toast until you have a new finish sprayed on.

My acrylic Bain Ultra air tub was set in a bed of mud with a piece of think plastic between the mud and tub. This was done for the ease of removing the tub if ever the need arises. It's as solid feeling on the bottom as my husband's Kohler cast iron tub. As for cleaning, that's a different story. You're not supposed to use anything abrasive on acrylic. Believe it or not, Scrubbing Bubbles is considered abrasive :( That's been my go to tub cleaner for years. To clean my acrylic tub RIGHT, I use Gel Gloss. It's a pain (literally!). You spray it on, let it sit, buff it and let it dry and then wipe the residue. When I'm in a pinch for time or physically limited, I will use Scrubbing Bubbles. There are very few non abrasive cleaners out there. One Bain Ultra suggested was Lemon scent Lysol. NOTHING works better than Scrubbing Bubbles!

I renovated the bathroom in my condo last year, which included replacing the tub. The enamel on the old tub (installed in the 1970s) was very scratched. The new one is a a Bootz porcelain on steel tub. It's only been about 15 months since the renovation was completed but I have no problems so far. The non-slip bottom is not difficult to keep clean. I use Barkeeper's Friend cleaner (easily available in stores and not expensive) per the manufacturer's instructions. I went with porcelain on steel because I live on the second floor of an apartment building, and since the old one was not cast iron I didn't know if the weight of a new cast iron tub would be a problem. I went with Bootz on the recommendation of my contractor, who has installed a bunch of them with no complaints. A neighbor refinished their tub a few years back and the fumes were terrible.

I wonder if the newer enameled cast iron tubs are not made as well as the old ones. That is what I have heard. I will prob put one in my rental home, (OBTW I have an acrylic alcove Underscore by Kholer, I like it a lot. I bathe every other day or more. Water seems to stay warm, I can soak up to my neck. Easy to clean I wipe it with a damp cloth and sometimes use spray cleaner. I think there is a chance it would not hold up in a rental.)

Thanks. The plumbing store said more specifically they find they start to yellow after 10+ years.

In a decade i will probably want to remodel my bathroom again anyway! lol.

I will call Kohler and ask if the ones sold to big box stores like Home depot are the same as the high end stores.

I absolutely love my Kohler Expanse. My neighbor has a Bancroft and the Expanse seems sturdier. It's also much larger.
