My pictures - types of file changed on all

I had my pictures in jpeg format and they always opened in my MGI Photosuite program when I clicked on them twice. Now, every single one of them has changed and opens in the Windows Picture Viewer, as if I had requested a preview. Can anyone here please tell me how to change them all back, short of opening and re-saving each one in my photo-editing program? Is the unwelcome change possibly due to my having previewed a lot of them on purpose lately?

Might try holding down Shift and clicking a file that you want to opep. Click on Open With...
There will be a list of programs you can open with.

Select the program you want to open that picture and check the box labeled Always use this program to open this file type

So you become more familiar with Windows, on the Control Panel is an icon called Default Programs. Clicking on that entry will take you to the same process. As it often does, Windows provides multiple accesses to this solution.

Very nice, Mike! So, where did you obtain this particular Jade? ;) I am glad to have played even a small part in your Jade addiction! This is one of my favorite Jades, as well. Jodi..that didn't work with these files. Not sure why..but I made the picture smaller so it would fit the screen and did a Print Screen. Then opened them in my photo editing program and saved them as JPG's! Thanks

All my photobucket pictures disappeared!

Hey everyone, thanks for all the help and suggestions :) I've checked with photobucket and I've only used 6% of the bandwidth. They did email me a few months ago to say I was at 80% of my usage...and that's when I took off a lot of pictures. Since then, they've increased their storage capability (even on free accounts). The only other thing I could think of is that I hadn't downloaded the new version of Adobe, which they recommend. I did that this morning, restarted the computer...and still no pictures :( For now, I'll just post links (which are working) and see if I can get more info from photobucket. Thank you all and I'll let you know when it's fixed.

Thanks to both of you. Mikie, I should have thought of that! And Damccoy, I am glad to have my attention drawn to Default Programs. I had never even noticed it was there.

And wouldn't you know, on booting up this morning and going to My Pictures to try out Mikie's suggestion, I found that ALL the pictures had reverted to jpeg, but I had to go through the Open with>Choose program (in spite of the program I wanted already being in the list), and then MGI Photosuite and clicking the box for always opening this type of file with this program. And that did the trick. I have no idea why my picture files revolted yesterday, nor why rebooting fixed them. (Should have tried that first, I can see now.) My virus problem has been fixed, but in the process, a few things seem to have gotten changed. I wonder what new puzzles await me!
