Where are all the hidden files?

I'm dual booting a not so new 120g hard drive, XP on one and 98 on the other. In XP, I am down to 3g of space and cannot figure out where it all went. One day I had 20 something gigs of free space, then nothing after only a few programs and graphics downloads. Definitely not 20 gigs. The only thing I can do is try deleting valuable things, but each time the same happens. Where does everything go?

I also noticed that graphics I view on the internet end up on my computer even though I do not download them. This happens just because I see them, like the graphics on this page. Somehow, they get loaded onto the computer. I'm not crazy or imagining this, so please take my question seriously. They go into the content directories. Is it okay to delete all these content directories in internet files? They don't delete when clearing internet files from the browser's Tools menu.

Thank for any help.
