How do I creat a system restore date?

I've been having so much trouble with AOL giving me a black screen and getting notices from Microsoft that I want to create a system restore date

I hav XP

I see the icon on my desktop and clicked it on and it said to put in a description easily identified or something like that but didn't say put in a date what should I do. TIA

Give it whatever name you want...it will automatically assign the correct date and time.

Sorry I don't understand I want to go to a date 10-27-09. What do I do ?

I have a north side garden and it gets some sun in morning and evening. Can you clear anything to get more of that sun in to the plant? If not, why don't you want to move it? If it is because you need some shrub there, you can probably (a) find one that will thrive there or (b) just consider the hydrangea a foliage plant. Plus, check that you are pruning correctly to enable it to bloom. If you are pruning off new growth then chances are you are pruning off flowers. KarinL

bently on, The easiest way I have found to root hardy Rose of Sharon is to take 4 inch long cuttings of just thickened fairly new stem tips from the shrub, just prior to its setting bloom buds period. Remove all the leaves except the top two or three, and pinch off any suggestions of pre-bloom bud forming bumps that might be found near the top most end of the tip. You should have taken 4 or 5 such tips. Next, insert them into individual, moistened soil, pots that you prefilled with clean well draining potting soil. Press the potting soil firmly around each inserted stem, and sprinkle the pots with more water. Then put all of them under the shadiest side (possibly the Northeast side) under a dappled shade tree's canopy. This will work best if there is also a privacy fence or other similar thing which produces such eastern shade. A covered patio might also provide enough filtered light. keep the pots gently sprinkled. or even misted if you have such a set-up. Making sure keep the soil moist, but not soggy. by late fall your tips should be well rooted enough to repot them into one size up pots and then sink those, pots into a sheltered planting bed. Let the young rose of sharon go dormant and cover them with mulch or straw through the coldest part of the winter. In the following Spring, just before they break dormancy, plant them out into the landscape bed where you want them to continue growing.

If I understand you Shaddy you wish to restore to back before the issue of 'not responding' but after the tech did his work. If there is a restore point created in between those 2 dates then yes you can. However if there is none then you cannot restore to that time frame. This is why I like to suggest (but often forget to do myself sadly) that people should create a restore point before making changes to their computer. Then if those changes do not create the desired effect the computer can be restored to before the changes made. On the issue of 'not responding' take a look in your Event viewer next time this happens. To do so click Start click Control panel click Administrative Tools click Event viewer Now you have a new window, look on the left site and click on System so you can view the results in the right side. Scroll down if needed looking for red error marks or yellow warning marks. Double click on any of these for further information. Much of it you will not understand but there will be a link there and if you click that you will be taken to the Microsoft site and hopefully an answer to your problem. If not then report back here with the error number and any pertinent comments they make.

Open Mycomputer from the desk top choose properties tell me how much ram is installed? Then open in Mycomputer again put your mouse over Local Disk, a small window will pop up, what does it say about Disc space it should list the total hard drive size, and amount of free space left on Disc. ******You might consider getting rid of Norton it does not get along with some PCs and there a very good free Anti Virus Programs available. Just so you know removing Norton usually requires a special removal tool to get rid of it all, if this is not done left over files will be left, it's a simple process but needs to be done correctly.

You don't create a system restore date. You create a System Restore point.Anyway that's not what your after is it.

You may not have the ability to restore back to 10-27-09 that restore point may not be there.

wow I don't know if I would advise going back that far in time, why have you picked that date? you would be losing a LOT of updates you got since that time that you would need to redo and it could well cause some issues with your antivirus program depending on the updates it has done during that time period. What are you trying to accomplish by doing this system restore?

I've been having so much trouble with aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaol giving me the black screen and even Explore (6) The reason I wanted to go back to that date is because if I remembe correctly I wasn't having any trouble then and it was the last time I copied my files to my extra drive.

Explain a little more about the black screen and when you get it. AOL giving me black screen is not enough to go on...

What are the messages / notices you get from microsoft, what do they say?

well you do need to be updating your IE to IE 7 at least very soon because support for 6 is ending or has already ended and you will be with out security updates for it so that is critical.

I would remove aol then try to re-install it if you just insist on having it, I try to steer people off of aol because it is such a problem child and it really is not needed.

as zep said we need more info on exactly what is happening when it is happening and what error messages you are getting.

Just got the black screen when everything closes down (about half an hour ago) I guess Microsoft calls it the blue screen I went thru all the messages from them and installed some up dates. I took about 5 screen shots along the way but don't know how to post them

I blame AOL beause I use it as my main browser.

what version of AOL browser are you using? if it is an old one that could well be your problem.

I would try downloading and installing firefox so you can see if this happens with other browsers so we can narrow it down a bit more.

if you have the screen shots you need to save them to your online photo album of choice like imageshack or photobucket and use the html link they provide to post them here.

Raven I have AOL 9.0 Opt SE

I wonder if the screenshots I have are really worth saving since they led me to the updates on my XP
I might download Firefox to see what it is like thanks

using the firefox just to see if we can pin down this problem would be helpful.

Do you use the secunia tool to make sure you have all your various updates on the pc done? if not you might try that something you have may need an update.
