How do I create a copy of a purple Rose of Sharon

I have a 50 yr old purple Rose of Sharon planted in my front yard in Toronto. It has a mossy green covering, and the whole thing is split at the base into the dirt, snd even those branches are split, pinned with bolts, and are dying and breaking off.

Here in Toronto, today's July 31st, it has been in full bloom for a little while, lots or all the purple flowers are up and open.

I want to put a new one in a pot with some fresh potting soil and get it up and growing so I have the option of transplanting it and taking the old one out.

How do I get a "new one" from the old one? Somehow the neighbor managed to get two!
