FYI, we did the cleaning of the computer and it wasn't very dusty at all. Surprised me because it's been too long since we did it. Still having the problem of it cutting off, sometimes it will come back to the same place and sometimes I have to reboot. Also can't watch NetFlix or Hulu. I don't have any problems with YouTube. So far I've done the following: Defragged Disc CleanUp Ran these programs that we've been running for a long time, the paid versions. Malwarebytes AVG Antivirus Super AntiSpyware While they've all gotten rid of a lot of 'unneeded stuff', they haven't solved the problem. I'm at my wit's end here. Any other ideas? he did reboot after selecting normal startup correct? he should check that the startup option for Normal Startup on the first tab is selected and make sure that the SAFEBOOT check box is UNCHECKED on the BOOT.INI tab. also you should know that Diagnostic Startup deletes System Restore Points. From an MVP "If you do NOT clear the selection for "Load System Services", the System restore points would be retained due to the fact, for one, that System Restore service would still be enabled. " If you UNCHECKED "Load System Services" in a "Selective Startup". De-selecting "Load System Services" will temporarily disable Microsoft services (such as, Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, and Error Reporting) as well as permanently deleting all restore points for the System Restore utility. You should not, therefore do this if you either want to retain your restore points for System Restore or if you're likely to need to use a Microsoft service to further investigate the problem you're having.) On the other hand, "Diagnostic Startup" involves a step by step monitoring of basic device drivers and services. It allows you to monitor and check each of those drivers and services. Have you tried going into services at msconfig and making sure all your normal services are still set to auto or on? Have you Tried "Last Known Good Configuration" from the F8 startup selection screen? this may be helpful Controlling the system configuration and services

When you use the link Bob provided be cool and follow along carefully, if you get flustered simply walk away for a while and return with a clear head and it will work great. You really need to have confidence in the anti virus installed on a computer, in this case McAfee. As long as it is up to date and allowed to scan daily you should be safe from a virus attack. Why would you click to download a second program? Does this Lenovo have any other protection besides McAfee? You might consider installing Superantispyware for protection from Trojans and the like. Be sure to click on the free version. Once installed look immediately for updates and run a full scan. This may take 45 minutes or more. Repeat that every one or 2 weeks to stay clean. Here is a link that might be useful: Superantispyware free

Doing a restore simply means restoring back to a date prior to your error problems hopefully fixing the issue, and can be undone if you choose, so no harm no foul.
