Granite came in and it's even better than I thought!

Drove to the fabricators today (90+ mi) to see our main slab that finally arrived from out of state. I was a little nervous after ordering it based on a pic I had seen of the slab. But OH MY is it ever just want I wanted! The colors are a bit washed out here, much more intense in person! Verde Fire:

That is a beautiful slab of granite!! I love the colors. It will look even better (if that is possible) once it is in your home. Thanks for sharing.

My county has been recycling for many years. Some areas have county trash service, but all private companies are required to have regular recycling pickups. Not optional, *required* (you can imagine the howls that greeted that regulation). Yard waste is picked up weekly (except for winter), shredded, and turned into free shredded-leaves or coarse chips. Otherwise, we are requested to put all paper -including magazines- newspapers and cardboard into paper bags (or bundled/tied with non-plastic twine) while cans, glassware, and a limited assortment of plastics (types 1 and 2) are picked up weekly. That limited assortment is a bit sad, but apparently there is no manufacturer within a reasonable distance to re-use the other types of plastic. There are centralized stations which take [and recycle] used oil, paints, dead batteries, and so on and on. There are non-government centers for recycling styrofoam and packing materials. I've attached the county's info link because it has some interesting pictures; it confirms that materials are sorted by hand; glass is sorted according to color; and a population of less than a million [it's an old link] produces more than a half-million tons of recycleable materials per year. I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I know how you feel, I lost my Mom one year ago from March and we had to go through her things too. It is so hard to go through the things. It is a process where everything you touch has a memory. For me it was like you want to hold onto EVERYTHING and cherish those things, knowing that's all you have left. But on the other hand, once you touched her things, her private things, you feel like you violated her space, like you were someplace you shouldn't be. And for us, once everything was handled, moved around, and them emptied, it just wasn't home anymore. We had disturbed everything. The only thing I can really suggest is just get through it, and give yourself time to grieve, share, and process along the way. Take everything that you think you may possibly want. I took alot of my Mom's, but there were a couple things I wish I had taken that I didn't. Many of Mom and Dad's things I have around in my home. And many are still in a box. But somehow it brings me comfort to just know that they are there. I have my Mom's pillow. I don't know how she slept on it, it's kind of like a lumpy, heavy sack. But it is under my pillow on my bed and when I really miss her, I can hold it, and remember Mom holding it, and I kind of feel like I'm holding her. For me, there is a loss - a hole in my life that will NEVER be filled. And I cry when I think of her. But I don't cry everyday anymore so I guess that is better. I will think of you as you go through this and I wish you comfort in the coming days. Joanie

Abe Darby has my favorite rose fragrance I've found yet, it's fruity & bright & just delicious. & honestly I didn't love the bloom on him at first either, pinks aren't my favorite, and there are so many other good ones to consider, but the fragrance won me over, and now I've grown to love the bloom as well. He's been in a pot the whole time I've had him & I just planted him in the ground, so I'm excited to see his blooms get even better! I'm glad you are enjoying yours!! It is lovely! In regards to the color being lighter, many things could cause it, weather conditions, amount of water or nutrients it has received. I wish I could give you an answer as to your specific situation, but I'm not as knowledgeable as some here, hopefully someone could give you some help with that! -Jessica

My take on automated sprinklers is: err on the side of underwatering and keep your eyes peeled for plants which look thirsty despite watering. Saves time and your efforts are focused on those that need extra attention. when we first installed a sprinkler system, I truly had the naive notion that the water was going to go to those plants that needed it the most. It took me a season of drowned plants, thirsty plants, to understand the concept of a brainless hose and timer. We planned and planned and planned the irrigation layout and timing, and still lost plants. The following year and henceforward, we are conservative w/watering times, then spot water. Hope this makes sense.

Beautiful and unique! I don't believe that I have ever seen those color combinations in a granite before :-)

Goooorgeous! Where are you putting it? Hope you got more than you need just to be on the safe side. We got word a couple days ago that the 3 slabs we bought over 4 months ago of Persian Brown are now NOT ENOUGH! At the time we asked GC and he said it's way more than we'd need.

We are using this slab for the 4x8 island, so yes-we do have enough! The island is our main prep zone. The perimeter counters will be absolute black.

I would love to see it when it's done. PLEASE send photos. We have a friend in Scottsdale who had this granite in his kitchen and it was stunning. I want something a little different in this house. I have Red Dragon now......Verde Fire!! I'm glad it turned out well for you.

Fishpants, what are the primary colors in your granite. It's hard to tell with the pictures. The woodwork you displayed along with it is great. What is the stain color and type of wood?
Nice choices all around. Lighting too. Perfect color.
You did a great job AND your pleased with this huge investment!

The main colors are green, salmon-red, and black.
We are going with Dynasty (Omega brand) cabinets in a flat panel/mitered mission style. They are cherry with the 'ginger coffee' finish.
We are actually going with a black cabinet on the island to go with the verde fire. The outer perimeter (majority) of the cabs are in the ginger coffee stain. I thought that would be a fun contrast.
Thanks so much for all the compliments! I think you always panic near the end about your choices and it's good to hear positive comments!
We are starting drywall in another week, so unfortunately, I am going to have to leave you hanging for awhile on FINISHED kitchen pics.

Your slab is gorgeous. This is exciting stuff! My DH and I are picking out our slab right now also. Our cabinets are chocolate glaze color. We are currently looking at African Ivory, Giallo Beach and Mascarello. I am not much of the decorator nor coordinator so hopefully it will flow together.

If I knew how to post pictures in here I would share!!
