Jane, open Avast, and at the top click on Settings. On the page that opens, you will see Behavior at the bottom. You may check to have scan results shown. *Note-"Scan results window will only be opened when there are any results to be shown."

AVAST does constant scanning it may not be set up to do a weekly scan as you normally think for other AV products, how I like to set up my AVAST is to go to the setting for your screen saver and in that list select AVAST as your screen saver that way any time your pc goes to screen saver mode it begins running the AVAST scan, when you interrupt it then it starts where it left off last time.

I missed this. I have the free version. Grandms, I do not have a 'behavior' button anywhere. Raven, I don't use a screensaver.

I would think an AV would give you the results of a scan. Mine scans daily, a box pops up to tell me a scan is in progress. There is nothing to check to see the results. I assume it will tell you when it does find something.

I had AVAST for many years. Takes time to get used to something new.

Jane, I have the free version of Avast. To find what I was referring to, right click on the Avast icon and then click on Settings. On the Basic settings interface near the bottom is Behavior.

I have the free version which is version 5.1.889. If you right click on the Avast icon in the taskbar then click on "Open avast! user interface" at the very top right hand side of the window that pops up you may find the options for HELP CENTER---SETTINGS---UPGRADE. If you click on the SETTINGS button, at the very bottom of the window that opens up there should be a box that is titled--> BEHAVIOR. In that box there is a little box where you can place a check mark to the left of where it says, "Automatically open the Scan Results when Scan is finished." Under that it says, "The Scan Results window will only be opened when there are any results to be shown."

I believe that is what grandms was referring to. What version of Avast! do you have? Not sure if your version has that depending on which version you have. I think!

My free Avast! is set to scan in "realtime" and does not save a log unless I schedule a scan at boot time or if I manually schedule it to scan after clicking on the "Scan now" button. It will then save the results in the Scan logs area. To find the Logs (if any are there) click on the SCAN COMPUTER button found just under SUMMARY in the User Interface window. Then, from the list click on Scan Logs that is located at the bottom of the list. If there were any scans scheduled for boot time or you clicked the SCAN NOW button there should be a log, otherwise there will not be a log.

If you do see a log just click on the dated entry and then click on the "View results" button at the bottom right of that window.

There are some results to be seen if you open Avast and click on Summary and Statistics. There is a drop down list of all the various components of Avast and a graph at the bottom which shows when these scans were run. A summary follows to indicate number of items scanned and number of viruses detected. Honestly, I did not know about this until I started looking around just now.

R'click Avast Icon in tray and select 'Open Avast User Interface'.
Click the 'Scan Computer' tab on the left.
On each of the scans, 'Quick', 'Full System', etc., there is a settings button to the lower right of that scan box.
Click on the 'Setting' button, and on the left side go down to the 'Report file' tab and select.
Make sure the 'Generate report file' box is selected at the top. Below that in the 'Reported items' section you can customize the report.
For any questions there is a 'Question mark icon' in the lower right side for further details.
The generated logs will then show up in the 'Scan Logs' tab under the 'Scan Computer' section.
