Hey I am still interested in your ideas. I just want to add that the service people I've been dealing with are very helpful and are trying their best. The guy I called today got on the phone with SubZero and he's going to replace the unit that regulates water flow from the bottom of the fridge. He says this is the last thing that could be the source of the problem. I hope he is right. If any of you have ever dealt with this problem, I'd love to hear about it.

gizmo has an ice machine not an ice maker. Those require maintenance, especially if water quality is poor. It involves citric acid and the cold plate more or less. This doesn't apply to ice makers in freezers. I think there is a timer gear or screw on those makers in the 42" but you'd have to do some searching on SZ ice makers to find out the ins and outs.

Thanks beekeeperswife -- the freezer drawers with icemaker is what I am thinking about as a solution. I couldn't find much regarding user experience with these in the forum. But I am also open to other solutions for ice making that doesn't create wet ice that is constantly melting and creating new ice (which it looks like the Perlick does). Can you share your experience with regards the following: 1) How much ice does the catch tray hold? 2) Is there a mechanism that automatically shuts off the ice making when the tray is full? 3) Could the entire drawer hold ice, or do you see any problems with filling the drawer with ice? I should perhaps also mention that we will be using RO water buffered to neutral pH, and so brass/metal fittings are not preferred. I believe the Sub Zero drawers can be used with quick fitting PEX which should be compatible with RO water.
