Our jetted tub was here when we moved in and seems to have been here a while, so I estimate it is at least 15 years old. The jets work fine and cleaning is easy. The previous owner told me to use a half a cup of dishwasher detergent and run the tub for 20 minutes with hot water to clean the jets and that has been all I need to do for them. I clean the inside of the tub by wiping as you would expect. We are looking to renovate our bathroom and want to fix the down sides to our tub with our next purchase. 1. The jets are loud. It bothers me but not my husband. I want soothing in a bath and they are jarring to me. They are great for mixing the water if it has been sitting a while and the top is hot and bottom cold. 2. The tub is acrylic and it slopes down from the inner edge heading to the wall tiles and seems to pull away from the caulk, making gaps due to the weight when the tub is full. I have tried caulking it with a full tub of water and letting it set that way, but that did not work either. I end up recaulking more than once a year and that is a royal pain. The area in the corner on the end by the faucet collects water after every shower and even as the water drips from the wall. It should be sloped the other way but isn't. 3. It does cool down but I do not see any insulation when I open the side panel so perhaps that was an installation issue. I think a heater may be a good feature to have to conserve on water. We have solar electric so would not feel too guilty using more power in that way. 4. The acrylic has not held up too well the past few years. There are some nicks in it and I do not know how they got there. We do not have the space for a longer tub but could do wider. I don't want super tall sides since I often rest my tablet on the side while in the tub and that stresses my shoulder. I also sometimes work on a laptop on a small table and have the same shoulder issue. As you can tell, I take long baths, lol. I'd love to hear about the sounds in the newer jetted tubs and the new air tubs. I'd also consider a plain tub with a heater if my issues with our current tub are inevitable. It would help if anyone went from a jetted to an air tub and can tell me the pros and cons. I think my hubby will want another jetted one but I am not sold on that idea. These are the early days of planning and I know I will be researching everything to death and reading old posts. Thanks for any advice you can share.

I'm posting because when we were looking for a Sanijet tub (now re-branded as Purewater Baths) there was a dearth of reviews... I was introduced to them because Hermann Hill B&B has them in all their rooms. If you can get to Missouri, it might be worth a stay just to try it, besides it being a very nice B&B. Our room had the corner style with the Elite control pad -- while the lights were kind of cool, I doubted I'd ever use the programmable jets, more likely just on or off. When ordering, it didn't seem worth an extra $800 or so to have lights, and I got the Essential control pad, which has been perfectly fine. I also called Hermann Hill and asked about their maintenance experience with the Sanijets, since they have a lot of them and they get lots of use. They reported no problems, I guess they've had them a few years now. I asked the rep at Sanijet for hotels or B&Bs with them so I could try different models, and they would not provide that info. You'd think that would be a win-win for everyone if they had the hotel's permission to release the info, but who knows. Pros: super easy to clean, and jets don't need cleaning every time. I clean mine about 1x/month, and even then they are already pretty clean. I love that there is no water sitting stagnant in tubes. I do rinse and wipe down the tub after each use, because we have hard water and I don't want calcium spots. A swipe with a hand towel and it's done. It seems fairly quiet (never had a whirlpool before so I have no frame of reference on noise), I can use bath salts and bubble bath (can't in a regular piped whirlpool) and it holds temp very well. Also very satisfying even with minimal water to cover jets because the jets closest to head of the tub send water cascading over shoulders and chest, so no more back and forth to keep legs warm, then torso warm, then legs warm... A warm, lavender scented bath at night vs. staying up and looking at a computer screen then trying to sleep -- definitely has helped my sleep pattern. Contractor had no issues with installation. Cons: cost, and the jets at the foot of the tub could be better situated. Not much space to rest feet between jets, and straddling them with feet is less than comfortable for me. But overall that's a small thing and the tub is very comfortable. I've used almost daily since late December 2013.

We have the contractor's Model 470 6-jet corner model. Very deep and long, I kid my wife she needs to wear a life jacket in it 'cause she can't touch bottom or the other end! Nor can I. The jets are less powerful than a conventional piped whirlpool. It might make a difference if we didn't fill the tub so full, lol, it holds about 92 gallons. Contrary to lainie55 above, the jet motors are not 1 horsepower, they're fractional hp motors at each jet (I installed the unit an read the motor labels). How did we determine comfort level sight unseen? Easy - Did we want to risk mold and mildew or not? The strength of the jets was a secondary issue - and with no one selling a comparable unit, there isn't really a choice. The only thing left to decide was whether you want to pay for the programmed jet cycles, and we opted not to.

Our teardown had a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub. We kept it and put it in the guest bathroom. Master bath has UltraBain airjet tub that I use a lot. DH is a shower person, so the airjet tub is "Goldilocks-just-right" size for me. Do "try one on". I wanted one where I could brace my feet and not slide under the water unless I wanted to deliberately dip under. I've appreciated the "arm rests" and saftey handles since I've had some hip and knee troubles. Also be sure you have enough, but not too much, tile around the tub so that you can get in and out easily. Position the faucets and spigot to be within reach, but not obstructing your entering and exiting the tub. I like having the sprayer attachment at the tub to rinse it out. I enjoy the airjet tub regularly, but if I am hurting, the Jacuzzi waterjet tub makes a real difference.
