External Hard drive set up???

Ok I asked for a external hard drive for Christmas. I got a used desktop 500GB drive and a Rosewill model RX355-U enclosure. I assemble it and hook it up to my HP laptop usb port. Install the driver and then Norton goes off with adware look2me. Norton takes care of it but I loose a button in my tool bar.

Anyway so I try to set this up some more and when I go to start> and right click my computer> manage> disk management. It shows the drive but I cannot format it from there? Also it shows the drive as only being 1GB and has only 74mb free space?

I do not know where to go from here other than sell this thing and get hp slim drive that hopefully is easier for a novice like me,lol The instruction manual doesn't have very clear instructions and I am what I thought was fairly computer smart but today I don't feel like it, LOL

Any suggestions / Ideas. Maybe I am overlooking a step or something?

If you have it in Norton Antivirus quarantine......delete it. Then if you can't reformat the Hard Drive, toss it out!

Look2me was an adware program that tracks your online surfing activity. It then sends the collected info back to the originators and starts generating targeted pop-up ads based on your interests. This parasite can also redirect your web browser and hijack your homepage. In addition, Look2me can download other spyware to your hard drive, including fake anti-spyware and antivirus applications.

I'd make sure that your computer is free and clear of infection and then delete all your old Restore Points and create a new one.

Try running a malwarebytes scan as a precautionary measure.

What operating system are you using? According to the manual linked below this program is good for W98 through XP. It even suggests it needs VGA with Vesa - good grief Vesa was almost outdated when Noah left the Ark it seems. Check out this link. often once it cools down completely it will start again, in fact putting one in a zip lock bag and in the freezer overnight will often allow you to quickly get your info off of a dieing drive, some people use dry ice to really chill them quickly. Keeping the dry ice in a zip lock also and on the hard drive while it is hooked up (but not in the tower) can make it operate a bit longer than just putting it in the freezer. the freezing it makes the metals contract enough that they go back in to their proper place and work till it heats back up then it quits again. That sounds like one of those FakeHDD family of rogue anti-spyware programs. This family of rogues pretends to be a system optimization program that will solve errors with your computers hard disks, memory, and performance. It will also display fake alerts stating that your computer has numerous computer issues, they also hide files by changing the attribute in the properties folder to hidden, so the files look grayed out. The odd thing here is Removable drives like flash cards and usb drives The FakeHDD rogues usually do not target these types of drives. In My computer, find your external drive E, F, G, whatever it is, right click it and scan it with your Anti Virus. I doubt it will find anything, but I'm still not sure how those files got hidden, so you can try the steps below: You can do this by right-clicking on the file or folder, selecting "Properties" and un-checking the "Hidden" checkbox.
