Reccs for a good deep freezer?

I need to purchase a deep freezer. nothing too big. i know nothing about them, haven't started the research, but thought i'd start by asking here. what's a good brand and price? thanks!!

Are you looking for a chest freezer or upright freezer? My chest freezer was great when we bought it to store the vacuum packed fish we brought back from an Alaskan fishing trip (the chest was full and those flat packages would have just slid out of shelving on to the floor when you opened the door on an upright). But now it's terrible to store anything else... can't find a thing and freeze yourself taking things out and back in to get to the bottom. We would like to replace our chest freezer soon!

Hmm, that's a good question. I'm not sure which type is better for us. I need it basically for overflow I guess. I have an infant and s toddler and i find my freezer jam packed w/ homemade babyfood cubes, tater tots, pizza, etc. So it's hard to fit in meat, fish, etc. Maybe a standup shelf one is better?

Howdy neighbour, I live in South St. Paul. Best buy has some decent prices. We bought a 12cf freezer there. You may have to order as they may not be on display. Warners Stellion has some nice stuff too. They have a store on Snelling Ave, one in Woodbury, and an outlet store nearby? You also have Home Depot, Lowes and Sears nearby. Some Menards carry appliances too. You need to choose between frost free or manual defrost. Frost free will not keep food as long because of the warm up cycle needed to defrost. Manual defrost is more work but because the food remains consistently cold it will keep longer with less freezer burn. This depends abit on how much the door is opened and your usage style. I have a manual defrost and I defrost in mid-winter when the food can go outside ( I call it the walk out freezer) in sub-zero weather while defrosting. A freezer is most efficient when packed full.

I have the same model refrigerator and I have minimal to no clearance on the sides. I have about 1 inch at the top. I do have a few inches of space behind the refrigerator. It has been installed for about 4 months now at its not complaining about the tight fit. It's "chillin" just fine. My manual says on page 8: "Allow clearance to the right, left back and top when installing. This will help reduce power consumption and keep your energy bills lower" I haven't noticed any increase in my electric bill since the refrigerator was installed. I think it looks almost built in. Just be sure to look hard at the reviews for whatever Liebherr you are looking at. The home we are renting for the duration of the remodel has a Liebherr, and I loathe it. The ice maker doesn't work (it has broken three times, once it broke a week after it was "fixed"), but of course we can't remove it, and it takes up the vast majority of one of the freezer drawers. It keeps the temperature we set very unreliably. For some reason, it always wants to default to 44 degrees. Water kept in there is not cold enough - and we've already been having to buy bagged ice because the icemaker broke! There's been food spoilage for this reason too. Sometimes we use this "supercool" button that is supposed to cool down the freezer quickly if, for instance, you have just loaded it with a bunch of warm leftovers. So far, it has not worked, but the fridge acts like it is possessed by a spirit who is trying to communicate with us by beeping - loudly - in Morse code. Obviously most people love their Liebherrs and this one is clearly a lemon. Just...check. Best of luck! Bean

I have 27" SZ columns that are set far apart and have never thought that it would have been better together. I suppose the length I have to walk from freezer to fridge to defrost isn't that big a deal since it is infrequent. I'm not a big ice in drink person, but my husband is and he's never complained. We do have our freezer near our butler's pantry so that cocktails can be easily prepared :) and you asked about size, so thought I'd share. We are a family of five, eat mostly fresh/cooked from scratch kind of family that enjoys the trips to Costco for certain items! I love the size of our fridge and freezer. The drawers are amazing and I can't fathom all the stuff I used to have to throw out with our old standard depth fridge!!!

You are in the same situation as me, and I can't wait to get rid of my chest freezer. I've tried putting containers in it but it's still a huge pain. I'm looking for an upright with adjustable shelves, so for I've only seen frigidaire do that. I store a lot of "make ahead" stuff in mason jars that I vacuum pack with my Foodsaver attachment, and the jars are less than 5" high and glass. Also have baguettes, pizzas, and large boxes of stuff, so I really want it adjustable. Haven't checked reliability on Frigidaire though, as I'm focused on main appliances for our new house right now!

cold air is heavy. In a chest freezer it stays put. This is good.

Freezer technology is not new. All brands are good.
