Bath floor Granite, Marble, Polished Porcelain?

I am a single bachelor and in the guest bathroom I am wanting to do something like this:

What would be a good choice for the floor? Granite, Marble, Polished Porcelain. I would like the polished look to go with the slate walls and tile.

Color? white, marble look, light or darker gray.

Also your suggestions on the color of the counter top with a white sink.

I had thought of black granite.

Any other suggestions. Someone had suggested lots of light because the slate will obsorb all the light in the shower.

A problem with a polished, or high shine floor, esp in a bathroom (wet area), is slipping on it. If you opt to go this route though, you can find some beautiful options at many tile stores.

We used a really neat tile (rectified porcelain) in our MB. It is a charcoal-y black tile (comes in other colors, too) called Glow, from Atlas Concorde (distributed by AKDO). The color we used is called Cosmos. The tile is textured; it looks like fabric, and has a silvery reflective quality. It looks stunning (IMHO!), feels wonderful, draws the attention of everyone who sees it, and is easy to clean.

I really like that floor tile, cat mom. Very sharp!

It would look great with a slate like the one in the Kohler link.

I wish I had a pic of my cousin's bathroom. She did slate on floor, tub surround, steam shower. She used a very dark soapstone on the vanity and it looks amazing!

If you really like black and shiny, you could use a polished black pebble. Maintenance would be minimal in a guest bath and it feels neat underfoot.

Thanks for weighing in, Bill. I've become addicted to this forum in large part to look for your answers and learn from the master! I was a little worried about polished tiles in the bathroom, but I've had the 2x2 polished marble in the shower for 2 weeks now, and it's just fine, even with young kids running in and out of the shower. I do also have a 12-inch stripe of a second tile, with more traction, running across the middle of the floor, and that helps, I'm sure. Now if I can only find something to replace the marble...

Hi crzy, You have a really similar color scheme to what we are going with, minus the glaze. We are also doing cream cabinets with a Calcutta gold backsplash. All the soapstones I looked at (and the selection was very limited in my area) were too busy and too green. I also *thought* I had settled on Jet Mist honed granite, (so pretty!) but when I saw it in person, it was too busy with the marble. Also, the gray shade was too "cool" with the warm cream paint and marble. To my surprise, what I finally settled on is Zodiaq quartz in Mystic Black. It is not too shiny, too dull, or too busy. It doesn't have the plastic-y look and feel that some of the other solid surfaces can have. It doesn't show fingerprints or water marks. It is kind of a dark charcoal color. I know there are some beautiful BLACKER soapstones out there, but they were not available in my area. I think in a smaller kitchen, the 2cm looks really nice--maybe even better than the chunkier 3cm if you don't really have any long runs. I know all about the addiction--I started having wrist and neck problems from all the scrolling and clicking hours. Even now, when everything is pretty much settled, I don't want to miss a good tip I could incorporate, so I check every day! Happy planning!

That flooring looks more beige to me than gray, which doesn't really go with the blank granite IMO. I think an expresso cabinet would be too dark with the granite. I'd go for a white, which would complement the white veining in the stone and keep it from being too dark.

Jan, maybe I am using the term border inaccurately? The way my walls and vanities flow, the "border" I speak of will serve as a backsplash, continue (same wall) to the tub area, freestanding, and hence the wainscot height (with wall tile under it). That area flows to the shower with 45 degree angles (3 windows), where I want to continue the "border" and tiles. The tile does NOT look like it goes with the slab in my above pics, but it does very well, as dos the hex tile. Think your underlying idea is shower and floors should match? Or maybe I AM using the term border correctly, in which case you don't like. :-) If so, trim ideas? TY!

I was told to keep it to three colors and your thoughts on the black pebble shower floor would work. The shinny texture would be a great contrast to the slate and the textured floor. Gray slate, black pebbles with white grout, sink, commode and accents.Possible small black one inch tile squares to accent in the floor. Stainless fixtures.

Not sure about white grout with the black pebbles. Too much contrast for me.. you can use white for everything else, though!

Check out some of these application photos and see what you think. The same stone can look completely different by using different grout colors.

We used midnight black grout with our polished black pebbles.

True that porcelain tile is a recommended bath flooring material as granite and marble can be slippery.

On the walls that are not tiled you could use a light or white paint like here to add a lighter surface somewhere in the room. I searched Houzz dot comm at the Photos link for the words gray slate walls but you could try other words to look for photos that show floors.

In the pic after it I like that the shower tile continues on the floor (I believe I've read that there are many porcelain tile options with a slate look).
