Agree with Hunzi. My DH just reinstalled our Master vanity, and it is so close to our shower glass, that I am hoping there is actually room for the granite overhang! Not the ideal and a couple of inches closer than I had thought it was going to be...but at least it'll be mainly just me in there, he uses another BR. I don't anticipate spilling anything that may find a way to run down between granite and glass, but with 5 kids I am sure you will be guaranteed to have the odd accident now and then. If you want the furniture look, a 30 or even 32-33(would be tight) vanity would be much easier to clean. Of course, the most practical would be a built in with fillers, as I'm sure dirt and dust will be filtering in from both mudroom and laundry.

Wheneve one is considering the feasibility of putting a bathroom in the basement the first thing you have to check is where your existing main drain/sewer exit the structure. If your main drain is under the basement floor it is usually not a big deal to add a 1/2, 3/4 or even a full bathroom in the basement, but if your main drain is at any level which is higher than the basement floor you then need a pump to lift the discharge from the toilet up to the drain line. You stated that your washer and dryer are in the basement so in all probability your main drain is under the floor, however it is possible that the washer standpipe is connected on a horizontal pipe that ties into the drain above the floor. Whether or not it is practical is really dependant upon your lifestyle. At my house I have a small workshop, my ham radio room and my computer room in the basement so I spend a lot of time in the basement and running up & down the stairs to use a bathroom gets old very quickly, especially when I have two or three of my ham radio buddies over to the house and we are all sitting around drinking coffee. Fortunately I have a walk in basement with an outside door so even though I often have guys over to play with my radios or the work shop, the 1/2 bath is not only convenient, it saves bothering my wife with all that traffic through the house.

The fixtures are Moen Kingsley, chrome finish. (purchased by plumber ) The shower in master is one of their complete 3/4" spa sets, + we bought a separate Moen showerhead...the one that you can switch from rain back to normal....highly recommend this option. Chrome is a rare phenomenon....my wife and I both love it, and it's the least expensive finish option! The kid's vanity is 28", and ours is 42 or 44"...both ordered from Home Decorators, complete w/ granite tops/sinks. ...The vanities is where we saved a bit. We're very happy w/ both vanities. One caveat, the drawers are pretty much wood boxes that sit inside cubby holes..no slides/dovetails/etc....We don't expect them to last a lifetime, but again, I'm happy with what we got vs. what we paid, and the wood finish looks great on both. . ONe caution...plumber hated hooking up the waste to the 28"...that is a very narrow cabinet! flying diver, thanks on the floor comment...it's carrara, so expensive per sqft, but not too much in our small bath! We both love the feel and look of it

2 feet in the middle of the closet is a tight squeeze. A reach in with double rod hanging can be more efficient and hold more. 13x13 is a nice size for a master bedroom. The bedroom in my former home was that size and I found it to be very comfortable. I would suggest that you separate the windows on the wall opposite the door to make a natural place for the bed to sit. Otherwise, you'll end up putting the bed in front of the windows, which isn't ideal. In the 2nd bedroom, I would suggest putting the closet to the right of the door on the south wall. Then add a second window on the north wall, separate from each other for the bed. Feng shui says you get the best sleep if your head is opposite the door and your bed is against a solid wall.
