Find it odd something like that JUST got set and the fact it's asking for a password well I think you would need that to undo it.

Are the controls set in XP? Or a third party application? or don't you know.

I am assuming that these are IE's inbuilt parental controls and not e.g. Norton's.

Having just read though a few of the answers in Google, they all say that you need to edit the registry to fix the problem.

Wisely, you have asked for help before venturing into the unknown as you are probably aware that the slightest error during editing will stop your computer from working.

The solution appears to be a simple five-minute job when you know what you are doing, so perhaps you could ask a knowledgeable friend to make the necessary changes. It would take longer unplugging all the cables than it would to correct the problem if you had to take it somewhere to be fixed.

Sorry it is such a negative answer, but better safe than sorry when messing with the registry.

Of course the other approach is to learn how to do it yourself - if I can so can you! Read the instructions until you understand them and then follow them exactly - and watch out for little things like the odd space or full stop (U.K.) / period (U.S) because they can be the difference between glory and disaster.

And here I was going to suggest knocking on a neighbor's door and asking their 10 year old to do it.

Oceanbaby has been around here nearly as long as I have and I took it as an honest post to solve a genuine problem - something that Microsoft seems pretty good at creating.

I'm going to take my time and try to follow the instructions mentioned by Bee-4-Me. The problem started with Facebook - I was trying to get to read my nephew's review of All Creatures Great and Small - clicked and the Parental Control page came up - on the bottom of the page it said override - which I pressed and then they asked for my password which I don't know. Of all things to block - one of the sweetest books.

As merntioned no kids - use computer only for e-mailing and googling - not technical at all. Thanks again.

Having never ventured near Facebook I may be way off.

But if you were trying to open the nephew's Facebook file wouldn't you need the password from him that protects his Facebook creation rather than anything on your own computer?

Oceanbaby, If I have understood your second post correctly and you were already on the Facebook site when the message appeared then my answer does not apply to your problem.

My solution was for the times when IE prevents you from even looking at the Facebook site until you enter the parental control password.

I am sorry but I cannot help if the problem occurs once you are on Facebook because I never go there.

Tried a few times via E How instructions - no luck - getting tired. Also having trouble with my new HP printer - trying to print E-How instructions and only the top and bottom of the page was being printed. I'm giving up for a while. Thanks again.

You have nothing to be sorry about. As you can see myself and others are not helping here for probably the same concerns as you. The Internet is always cloaked in a veil of anonymity and the potential for deceit so I personally will never assist anyone to defeat, annul, or circumvent a security device of any nature. I wouldn't like it to happen to me so I will never do it to another.

well we have no idea what parental control they are trying to defeat when we have little or no info it is impossible to even guess. If the questions we ask do not get a response then it is futile. We have to assume and well you know how that goes LOL
