"Lucy........I can esplain..." LOL Ok, the sub albums are done!! I think. For Now. All 470 photos are sorted into 15 albums under the Garden Junk Inspiration album. Tho to go from sub to sub, you have to go BACJ to the main GJ album where the list of the subs are. You with me so far? LOL. Also, you may still be doing some "hunting" for things since I used my creative license to put stuff where I thought it ought to go. Unfortunately many things could fit in any of several categories, so may not be in the ones YOU might be expecting. And I had to do a MISC album for things I'm not sure about, or have too few photos to set up another sub for them yet. Like all the old bikes and trikes and pot people, etc. So I hope this makes things a lot easier for all of us, and we owe a BIG Thank You to the lady who suggested I do this up right. LOL. I went looking for images of those elements. Ribbed glass panels in cabinet doors is easy enough. Here's one in a bathroom vanity: Ribbed glass (or ''seeded'' glass) is also often found in period light fixtures: As for marquetry countertops, if you asked most kitchen cabinet makers for such, I imagine they would gape blankly at the gabbling woman. But there are plenty of companies doing stock and custom hardwood marquetry inlays using CNC laser cutters. Here's the thing - they are doing it in floors. Google ''hardwood floor inlay'' and see. Yes, many of the rosettes are infeasible for a 26'' counter, but look for the ''border'' designs - or create your own. Assemble a 26'' wide section of inlaid ''floor'' on a 3/4'' plywood substrate, encase it in Waterlox, and I do believe you'd have yourself a marquetry countertop. Another option - perhaps cheaper - is stenciling on hardwood, of which this is an example. And so is this What else? Beveled glass is readily available, as is chrome countertop edging, and any furniture or auto upholstery shop can cover a panel of 1/8'' plywood in soft butterscotch leather framed in silver studs (maybe not actual silver, but close enough). I don't know exactly what version of Art Deco you are headed for, or if you even like butterscotch, but the point is, you are not doing yet another white kitchen, you're doing something that isn't being done by the mainstream, so the ordinary kitchen sources are not making this stuff. Sure, there is cool Art Deco hardware around, but what passes for ''Art Deco'' kitchen cabinetry in the online catalogs is . . . disappointing. You are going to have to make it, or at least source it, yourself - and I think if you're comfortable outside the painted lines, you can. You'll find yourself hiring a floor guy to work on a countertop, hunting down the local hot rod upholstery shops, telling your cabinet maker to fit bathroom vanity faces to kitchen cabinet boxes - they'll still look at you like you're crazy, but you'll know you're not. Go for it, girl!

i have not been here or spoken in a while. but i have been checking in. you may not have noticed but i while back i suggested putting it with other things that are important to you in your life to make it kinda personal collage wall. In this case i think that all this stuff about like or dislike should not matter. you said they were someone really close to you. therefor they gave you this for a reason. maybe you need to ask them the reason, or spend more time looking at it. There are a few things in my home that i do not really like but i honor them anyway. one is a bracelet, made of a tail of someone. I hate it, as i do living fur things. but a very very important woman, whom i really respected gave it to me, because i said "Oh, i am just dying for one of those!" she totally missed my sarcasm. she moved heaven and earth to get me this, because they no longer had them, and it made her late to a party, because it came late.The lesson and the respect she showed for me that was what was beautiful. sometimes i think we just worry too much about ourselves and no longer have enough respect or concern about others or how they matter in our lives. Also i have looked at it alot now. If you look at the red is I believe that it represents how she has accomplished every thing with so much of herself she bled. all the hard things women do. birth, keeping your figure heart, etc.

My sister has a different approach. When our mother died, she left behind a few boxes of old (and I mean old) family photos from both her family and my late father's family. She also left behind albums of her own RCAF service in WWII, and some photos and a scrapbook of a couple of my dad's voyages (he was engineer on an ocean-going tug). Sis took photos of my mom's younger brother, killed during WWII, to the tiny local museum where they grew up. Uncle Stuart's photo is now on their War Memorial wall. She took some photos of Mom's air force service to the aviation museum at the airport where she served. She took photos and memorabilia of my Dad's historic tugboat trip (yes, don't laugh, there are such events!) to the Maritime Museum in Vancouver. And she sent photos of my grandparents' homesteading days on the Prairies to the local museum back there, as well. All were delighted to have them! I've passed on some photos she gave me of our maternal grandparent's earlier years in England to a local historian back there who has an interest in the historic house they lived in, and had previously written about the family. He's now added a bit more to their story on his blogsite, and even dug up some information we didn't know about, including a couple of photos. So, while I may not have my grandparent's wedding photo up on a wall, it and they are memorialized on line in an article he wrote about them!
