Weissman, I don't think they've just aged off because I see that my own postings (different subject), and replies from others, from two months earlier, are still there. ( What's a good micro-convenction oven?) and the last reply is August '07. A google search on "carly" and "oven" will return those posts, but not the ones discussing the "kuchen-ade" ovens, which were posted later.

You are not searching using the phrase kuchen-aid....right?

The search function on this site sucks. Don't know how it's possible, but I've known it to miss threads that I know still exist.

I've never seen a post pulled here unless it was political or offensive to other posters. Never heard of anyone having an issue from bashing a particular brand. If you know the date of the last post, scroll through to that time period.

Oruboris - I did print out many of the posts and the last one I have is Aug 22, 07.

The subject heading was:

"New KitchenAid oven - broil element on when baking"

I've done a search on the key words in the subject, the various respondent's names...everything I can think of, but nothing comes up.

I didn't see any way of searching my time frame...do you know how?

And no, I'm not using "kuchen-ade", but the proper name. That name was just to avoid detection by any filter that might be used here....hope it isn't, but I do find it strange that all those posts have vanished.

I just went to the last page of posts and the earliest one still around is from Jan. 5, 2008. Anything from Aug. 2007 would have rolled off a while ago like I suspected. Everytime you start a new thread, an old one dies. That's a good reason for adding to an existing thread instead of starting lots of new threads. There have been people who will start a thread "Should I buy appliance X?", then a thread "I bought appliance X" and finally "I hate appliance X, what should I do?" :-)

As I said earlier today, my post from June of 07 (with the last reply in August of 07) is still there, but the one of August 07 is not.

Also, in browsing through the old posts I see that they're not necessarily in chronological order, and there are 2006 posts mixed in with 2008 (and not because of replies in 2008)

If you do a google search on my name (Carly) and microwave and gardenweb, you will find the post asking about microwave ovens, from June 07. However, searching for "carly oven gardenweb" does not return the posts complaining about the wall oven, . A search with the words in the subject of those posts, from from August 07..."oven broil element on when baking"...also returns nothing.

I can't think any explanation other than that the critical posts have been removed.

Carly, I searched for your name on THIS SITE and there are only two posts - this one and another post by someone else that you replied to - the last reply on that thread was June 2008.

Searching with Google is irrelevant to policies on this site. Google has a cache and some things get saved for some period of time but I have no idea how and when Google clears its cache. The fact that you can't find an old gardenweb post using Google does not have anything to do with gardenweb policies.

Someone recently noted that old posts that someone has "clipped" can still be found.

Maybe you can find an appliance tech who can rewire the mode control so that the broiler does not come on in the bake mode.

I can't visualize what problem the manual warning is trying to avoid. If a cake is on a lower shelf and an upper shelf is partly covered by a cookie sheet, surely that is in scope for normal oven usage.

Back to the actual problem that Carly is having with the oven:

No one is currently claiming to have the same problem. The KA broiler is actually two separate elements. Perhaps in Carly's oven the wrong portion of the broiler is turning on? (There is an 1800W outer and an 1450W inner element)

Look to the right of the title on each post and find iVillage. To the right of that you will find "Clippings." This is a mechanism for saving messages of interest.

First let me say that it's not true than no one else has had the problem I have...with the broil element coming on during the bake cycle, and over-browning the food being baked. I read about it at least twice when I first had this oven installed, exactly the same as I was experiencing.

However, on another thread someone suggested that perhaps the bake element (lower, under the oven floor) wasn't functioning and the broil element was attempting to maintain the temperature without assistance. That sounded so plausible, and would have explained everything, but when my husband tested the oven this morning, he said the lower element was definitely working. I was so disappointed...

However, the bread dough proofing feature does not work at all (didn't matter to me) so I'm using that as an excuse to get a serviceperson out here and at the same time hoping to get some insight into the main problem with this oven. KA would not send someone out for that, saying it was "normal".

I'll keep you all posted on this.

I didn't mean to imply that no-one has ever had the same problem as you, just that I haven't seen any current complaints. I was trying to imply that whatever is happening with your oven seems abnormal. That's why I discussed the possibility of the broiler sections not functioning as designed. Good luck resolving your problem.
