IE 7.0 is a disaster

Top of my screen is gone. Go button is gone. No way to backwards forwards. All the iconically induced operations at the top of the screen are no longer there. Top of the screen has disappeared after brief initial start up. Cannot invoke toolbars for selection. Can someone help me?

Can you get to the Control Panel?

Uninstall IE7 through your Control Panel's Add/Remove programs.

You will automatically be rolled back to IE6. Its not the IE6 you used to have its an IE7 Ready IE6...but its better than nothing, but not much.

If you're having problems accessing Add/Remove, reboot your computer in SafeMode.

I am down in the Bay Area, warmer but our nighttime temps can get into the high 20's. I just started my tomato seeds last weekend. I plant the seeds in 6 oz yogurt cups with 4 holes punched in the bottom (about 3mm each). I plant in plain old Supersoil Potting Mix. I put the soil in the cups dry then soak it through really good. Plant a seed in each one then spritz once more with a pump sprayer just to make sure the seed is good and moist. I keep the cups in a plastic tray with a dome, but any kind of loose cover to keep in humidity will work. I've used a plastic Rubbermaid bin that I've drilled holes in the top. That works. I leave them in the house until they sprout. I water them about once a week using a pump sprayer so as not to disturb the soil. Soak them until water starts dripping out the holes in the bottom. In the larger yogurt cups, you don't need to water more often than every 5-7 days, but when you do water, don't be stingy. The split second they sprout (and I mean split second to keep them from bolting for sun), I move them out to my workshop, which is a Tuff Shed unheated. They go under plain old shop lights. I have some reflective insulated panels I place around the seeds. The lights provide enough heat, and the insulated panels holds the heat in well enough even on those cold nights. I leave the lights on a timer about 14 hours a day (5 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and try to keep them about 2 inches above the plants, which means you'll need to be able to adjust the height as the seedlings grow. I've never had a solitary problem, and all the plants I start from seed always outperform the occasional plants I might pick up at a garden store. I buy good seeds though. Johnny's is my choice, but there are other reputable companies. When the tomatoes outgrow the yogurt cups, I move them up to the Solo (keggar cups, I call them). By then, the weather is getting close to planting and I start leaving them in the yard during the day and bringing them in at night. It is 2 different situations. Bottom watering by sitting the containers in an inch or so of water for a short period of time is what is recommended. Then remove them from the water. The gravel discussion is only for those few plants that either a) require excess humidity or b) will be left unattended for a period of time, say 2-5 days of vacation. The use of gravel plays a minimal, if any role, in average garden seed starting. Lighting as discussed in the How to get started FAQ and the Lighting FAQ is 99% of the time only fluorescent ie: 4' 2 tube shop lights. There are many discussions here about this that the forum search at the bottom of the page will pull them up along with pics that many of us have posted of our light set-ups. That is all that is needed for seed starting. LEDs and special grow lights or special colors only come into play when one is growing full grown plants inside under lights and need to encourage blooming etc. Mirrored sides??? Never heard of anyone using them yet millions start their seeds without them. Simple aluminum foil, the $2 mylar camping blankets, even white paint can all help with light reflection but the benefits are nominal and none of them are required for any reason. Well water is no problem. It is hard and chlorine free. It is artificially softened or some city water that can cause problems. Most packaged seed starting mix, what the majority use, and potting mixes are already sterile when you buy them. They are sold that way. If you mix your own out of non-sterile ingredients or use old mix then some recommend first treating it with boiling water. Seed starting can be as simple or as complex as you or the folks selling equipment for it want to make it. As with many things in life, simple is best. :) Dave

It's not IE7. I'm posting this using it. Check your privacy settings on Firefox and IE (Tools>Internet options on IE, Tools>Options>Privacy on Firefox.) Make sure you're allowing cookies and that you haven't blocked cookies from the site for some reason. There's a button in there somewhere that will let you look at sites that cookies are being blocked from.

You might try disabling third party extensions to see if one may be the glitch. If so then you have to figure out which one. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Advanced tab. In the Settings box under Browsing, remove the checkmark from 'Enable third-party browser extensions' and then click OK. Close all IE browsers for it to take affect.

DH doesn't know what he did, but he fixed it. He's pretty good with stuff like this, he got into the control panel okay and took it from there.

I had the same problem with iE7 and i found out all I have to do to get things back is click several times at top right even if there is nothing to click on. It comes back. Before I found this I used to have to turn computer off and restart to get the bar back.

I can't get into edit mode for copying and cutting. What do I do about that??

Vic are you saying you cannot cut, copy or paste while in IE7?

Those choices are greyed out untill you do some highlighting on the page. Once you highlight something then you are able to click to copy.

It is supposed to come out of the dropdown menu on the on the edit option. I don't have the edit command, in writing on I.E. Help!!!

Not really keeping up here, but right click on an empty toolbar space or empty space anywhere near the top. See if the menu bar is in the small menu of options that appears. Check it if it does.

I take it you didn't do the rollback? Get out of IE7 there far more problems than cutting and pasting. FTP sites are inaccesible, and downloads are all screwed up.

Make a restore point ... just in case, and roll back to IE6 before you get yourself in really big trouble. IE7 is not finished.

I had a message come up on my computer screen saying that IE7 is available and ready to download. From what you are saying here, I should NOT download IE7?

Nope, It has too many problems. They got a lot to work out. There are many many glitches, it takes up more memory to use, also. It has some good features...but your internet abilities are going to be severely limited until other websites and Microsoft make some serious adjustments.

If you can avoid the IE7 rollback (which you will most likely end up taking) to IE6, that is not much better, its very slow...even with 5 meg cable service.

Let them work out the kinks, and wait til more websites are accessible. Don't let Microsoft bully you into taking it just yet.

Edit items,,, right click a blank spot on tool bar and choose the 'Customize Command Bar' / 'Add Remove Components' then you see a 'Page' . Add that for the

My IE7 works perfect ;)
I simply followed the MS install instructions. And didnt have a ton of virus programs, spyware programs, popup blockers, multiple firewalls, and google/yahoo/aol toolbars all running while it installed to screw it up like one person I know of did.

Oh come on mikie...its got problems. I don't know if they have fixed the access to FTP sites or not yet, and there are conflicts with java, and many websites haven't had enough time to adjust to the security changes. Its bigger and prettier and slower. I liked the magnification settings and the spiffy layout...other than that. There wasn't one mod I could download for Morrowind without problems, after the lame rollback ...I could get them.

For the amount of money I have to pay Charter and the access I was being denied, it wasn't worth keeping. Why pay for webpages you can't get to, and email that you can barely use?

Its just not ready.
