First disconnect everything from pc. usb devices, printer, modem, etc. If the machine is not coming on all all then a power supply, switch, wall plug need to be checked. If it does appear to try to start Then try below

1. Restart your computer.
2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Try a system restore.

Do you get an audible beep after the first few seconds?
If so how many beeps?
Watch the front of the tower where you saw the blue 'On' light and see if the activity light flashes on and off intermittently.
Do you hear the fans start to spin?

Zep, glad you were available as you have been very helpful in the past. It is not my power supply or wall plug. I get a turning on sound when I press the power button and the light that is supposed to indicate my hard drive blinks. I don't recall if it stays on all the time or not. I checked the HP website and it says to use the F10 button, which I did....I also tried your F8 button. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse....both of their batteries are good. I tried to contact the on-line chat support but for some reason, when the agent finally comes on the space where I'm supposed to type my message doesn't work....grrrrrr. I have used that site previously with good results.

The hard drive light blinks just once and I hear the beep. I can hear the fans. There is also a little light for "memory card reader indicator" which comes on.

Well the F10 key looks like a full system recovery. Not so sure we need to do that yet. Keep trying the f8 key again. Restart the computer or if you have to power it off and on now keep tapping that f8 key every second. If you do get it to Safe Mode then click Start, all Programs, Accessories, System Tools, THEN System Restore follow the directions and restore my computer to an earlier time.

If you have problems there. At the Menu List instead of choosing Safe Mode Choose "Last known Good Configuration"

Should these attempts fail then the full recovery using the f10 key could be considered.

Sometimes you need to try entering Safe Mode a few times to be successful.

quick search ~HP Touchsmart F10~ shows F10 is for accessing bios.

Could it be your screen is just off ?

Another note said unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds or more to reset everything and the power brick?

Check that the monitor power and data leads are securely fixed.

I would also asap find a wired keyboard and mouse to use many times with problems it will kill the wireless keyboard and mouse, I have had that happen to me so I always keep a wired version around just for these situations.

is this unit running wireless or is it plugged into a router with ethernet cable? if wireless try with a cable.

I had been worried about that possibility, since I wasn't getting any response using the F10 key, I was wondering if my wireless keyboard wasn't working, in spite of new batteries. This particular machine comes w/wireless keyboard and mouse, so don't know if it would make a difference, just plugging this other one into the lan port? Mine had issues right off the bat and so HP replaced the keyboard and sent me a "transmitter", my word, that plugs into a front lan port which causes my mouse and keyboard to work. In my research on the HP website, a blank screen can be caused from new software or hardware....just wondering about the update installation that was going on when my PC powered off.
I opened up behind the monitor and nothing appears loose. The monitor plugs in, internally.
I checked the FN keys....course now I don't know if they are off or on?!!

Sort of lost track here, what happens when you try to get into safe mode.

I was unable to contact the on-line chat...contacted support via e-mail, which is slower....they of course say that there is nothing wrong with the chat....which is BS, as I have tried it 4 times. Their first link was basically to do the F10...which is useless. Now they want me to re-set the hard drive and memory, which I am going to have to wait until tomorrow when I have more light..darned energy saving light bulbs...so since they are having me pursuing this and with my symptoms, is there hope, that I haven't crashed? I so don't want to lose my "stuff"!

Try the chat with a different browser. Sometimes it makes a difference. If you're using firefox try ie. If you're using ie try something else. You do not get to safe mode through your bios, there is a different key. Usually it's f8 but may not be in your case.

You can also force a safe mode in the boot ini file using msconfig.

I work on my desktop with bare feet so I'm a good ground, hehe... and try to keep a toe or elbow/arm against the metal case all the time my hands are in there.

Seems to me the flip flops would be ok LOL!

Hi, Been away all day. Zep, sorry, I just re-read your posts and then checked the responses from HP and you are right. They are saying to use the F8 key, but their first choice was to use the F10 to get to BIOS to see if anything showed up on that screen. In reading what they said about the F8, it says that as soon as the first screen comes up....my problem is....NO screens come up....nothing. I tried the F10 and yesterday I did the F8 and nothing happened. So now they are telling me to remove and reset the memory modules and remove and reset the hard drive. They sent me a link which shows step by step how to do it. I have opened it up before to clean, but never de-tached anything. Really....what is my best plan regarding the static electricity. It says do it on a hard surface....non-carpeted floor. That I can do. It says "To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad)" and wear a wrist band, which I don't have. What can I do?

F10 ok there trying to determine if the screen is working..

owbist always has the best explanation for this. Really all you need to do is touch a door knob or any metal surface to discharge any static from your body before going inside, wrist band is not really needed. Your very unlikely to build up any static from standing still. Always keeping 1 arm resting on the computer case is a good idea as well as working on a non carpeted floor.

I think your on a wild goose chase now but carry on and let us know.

I think that's your best option. You have a somewhat difficult situation there. Without seeing what's taking place it's hard to do it on the forum sometimes. Things get overlooked.

I did take it today to a lady at our school that does some work on computers. She did remove and re-seat the memory and the hard drive and didn't get any response. I guess since this is an "all in one", it is a little different duck and she recommended that I take it to someone else, who I have called and they said that they would look at it. Sounds like to me that they aren't going to be able to do much more to it than she did. The guy said if it was related to the motherboard that I would end up having to send it in to HP....Just wanted to give you an update! Thanks for you all's help.

I have received the next suggestion, via HP e-mail support. This time they suggested isolating the 2 memory cards, trying to restart, to see if both cards are good. I don't feel comfortable doing this, so I took my computer back to the lady at the school. She did it and still got no response. I reported to HP and since I've it's been a week, I'm ready for this to be over with. I asked about where to get the machine repaired. They gave me a couple of links which came up with results like Walmart. I never knew Walmart to have a repair service for computers. So my question is, where should I take my computer to get it fixed. Do all repair places ultimately have to send back to the maker? I can send it back to HP for a minimum of $300. Would I be better off to just do that? The repair place that was recommended in my area said that if it was related to the motherboard, that it would need to be sent in. Is that typical, or did I just call the wrong repairman? Thanks!
