Okay, using the Firefox "troubleshooter" I went to plug ins and set and changed "shock waver" from always on to ask. All seems much better - so far. Right now the CPU Utilization is so low the processor speed, a slow 1.4 Ghz is backing down to slower speeds to save power, this is a Laptop and does what it can to extend battery life even if the A/C is attached, or so it seems. I tried to view a video on Youtube and it asked me to enable Shock Wave, I did and the video play normally and the CUP utilization was still well below the old 90% level. This my be the culprit - I wonder what IE does about Shock Wave, I'll try to find out later. Another mystery: HOW DO I BOOT IN SAFE MODE in W8? Yes I know I'm shouting but that's how I feel about Microsoft at the moment, maybe a Mac is in my future, when I'm "rich and famous".

@eam44, yes, we have tile now. The builder has to tear up our floors to repair our foundation. There will not be any tile once they're done with the repair. My daughter has a permanent dent in her forehead from falling from a standing position onto the tile floor. It's tile over a slab. This house has a huge straight staircase that scares me to death. This pic doesn't show how high it is but the house has high ceilings and it's a straight drop down to the tile. I've fallen down steps onto carpet and I've been injured. If my daughter fell down these steps onto the tile, the same tile that left a permanent dent in her head, it could kill her. So I want something more forgiving than tile. I know I could put a rug down but I still prefer a softer surface.

Can you support a 10-inch circular duct? Or a large enough rectangular duct to be equivalent in pressure loss to a 10-inch round duct? I can't tell from the drawing where the duct actually is as it follows the "4-inch" wall to the outside. VaH Magic Lung "equivalent CFM" depends on there not being a set of baffles in the hood to degrade conventional blower flow with pressure loss. However, like the conventional blowers, the VaH blower is susceptible, perhaps more so, to other pressure losses. These include the duct length and bend pressure losses, and the pressure loss from imperfect MUA. (Even a screened window has a pressure loss as an MUA source.) 42 x 27 = 1134sq. in. (counting what is likely a control surface and not intake aperture) = 7.9 sq. ft. One would like to achieve 90 CFM/sq. ft. or 710 CFM. If you do a good job on the MUA and the ducting, particularly the turn, your VaH may achieve close to this flow rate. Note that this hood's spec sheet shows that you will need to limit the static pressure loss to about 0.2 inches of water column to meet this actual flow rate. Your HVAC person will need to evaluate whether your actual ducting, along with the performance of your selected MUA system, causes the house to outside differential pressure to stay below this value. MUA is a separate system. It takes outside air from somewhere, such as the roof, and injects it into the kitchen space or some space connected to the kitchen. It will likely require filtering of dust and bugs, and heating. If the household has no combustion appliances that take air from any space connected to the kitchen, then a passive (no blower) design might (!) be adequate. Otherwise, it requires a blower (active MUA) that roughly approximates the hood blower in putting air into the house to replace that which is removed. With the VaH, I would plan on the strong possibility of requiring an 'active' MUA system. Please review a number of MUA threads here, including those in @opaone's links.
