Printer difficulties.

I have a LexmarkÃ¢ÂÂ¢ Pro 205 printer connected (wirelessly) to a DellÃ¢ÂÂ¢ Inspiron desktop computer.
The LexmarkÃ¢ÂÂ¢ stopped printing but continues to copy.
I re-installed the LexmarkÃ¢ÂÂ¢ but the test page would not print.
It shows, "Printer cannot communicate with the computer".
In the control panel section of the computer, it shows, "Printer has been successfully installed".
Any idea of the problem and/or solution?

There should be a network setup wizard on the printer. Run that again.

pkponder, I did as you said.
Now when the desktop is switched on, the printer is "awakened".
The "Control Panel" indicates that the printer is installed.
When I sent a "Word" document to print, the printer went through its routine and produced a blank page.
Copying still works fine.
I will make some time this weekend to work on it some more.

My newsletter is called Raleigh Garden because it is focused on the Raleigh NC area (hence the Triangle in my web name). This area is a goldmine of gardening goings-on and the "who's who" horti-list just keeps getting bigger and bigger everyday. I wanted a way to tap into all that but in a low key manner. So I designed a tabloid that was intended to be mix of Southern Living meets The National Enquirer. It flew, people loved it, people CALLED ME to place ads in it, people with credentials wanted to submit articles. I turned them down for the moment because my subscription list was soooo small I didn't want to waste anything good on my first wobbly baby steps. The problems are not designing a winning product (at least for me), the problems are not production (expensive but do-able), the BIG HUGE monster problem is distribution. Garden Centers don't care to add one more product to their inventory unless they are dealing with a fancy schmantsy sales rep - or - we are talking about a product that is gonna make everybody stinking rich. To my face they were thrilled to see someone doing what I was (am) doing, but very few of them bought in to the project. Faced with tiny sales I downsized the publication to a simple Kinko's photocopied newsletter and focused on putting out a calendar instead. Store managers will tell you they would love to carry your product until you show up with a box full - then suddenly they are less than interested. I've heard everything from "we already have an in-store newsletter and don't want the competition" to "it's not a magazine or a book, so I wouldn't know where to stock it" (this from the bookstore that previously stated they would love something local). The best was the downtown garden center that said they would carry it but that they doubted it would sell. I hand delivered and set up a small display and explained that they would be on consignment and that I would be back in one week to restock. Upon returning the buyer met me at the door and gushed "we've sold out! I can't believe it!". I explained that I had plenty on hand in the car; how many did she want? She acted confused and then said, Five, bring me five. She had just sold 24 in about 7 days, they are on consignment and have so far cost her nothing, and she only wants five. They are still my best customer but I realy have to babysit them every month. The company on the internet that I use currently as my printer is PSPrint. They will print in small runs and the price is realistic. I will probably stick with them forever and just give up on the local printers. It takes too much time to chase them down only to be turned down in the end.

Fax problems with VOIP

My understanding is that the fax 'handshake' (the tones you hear when you attempt to send a fax) cannot reliably complete with a digital telephone line. I believe that VOIP would be considered a digital signal. You might look through your Vonage information to see if there is a workaround. Another option might be to use an application like RightFax or eFax.

I can't help you with any info about monitors and Lyme Disease but I've been a computer professional for 40 years. I'm certainly picky about being able to see what I'm doing since I'm clearly not young and spend 60-70 hours a week working on monitors. My first monitors were printers with keyboards attached as the punch cards were just going away. Consumer monitors like the ones you bought are pretty much made for consumer activities such as watching movies and viewing pictures. They are part TV and part computer monitor. I don't know how people stand them for serious work on text, particularly with black text on a white background. Actual televisions hooked up to a computer are great for a group of people looking a pictures from your travels but are just horrible for this type of work. Over the years, I've frequently needed a monitor on a weekend where the only choices were Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, etc. Basically nothing they have is acceptable for serious use. I'd suggest you contact someone that deals with real computer systems and have them setup something for you to look at. My personal opinion of Viewsonic was good about the time that CRT were the norm and was impressed with some of their early LCDs. My opinion of the company is poor for at least 10 years. Another problem I see with consumer monitors is the short height, for example 1920x1080 resolution in a 27" vs 1920x1200 in a business 24". When I work seriously on a long document with lots of reorganization and edits, I use a 1920x1200 24" turned portrait. I wouldn't buy anything without trying it first!

A KVM switch can work very well. Just make sure it can handle your hardware. All the keyboards and mices must use the same interface, and the monitors may have difficulty if you are using high resolution displays. VGA works fine, but if you are using a "full HD" monitor, be careful.

I briefly Googled the model number and error. May be easily resolved by reinstalling the printer on the computer that's throwing the error. Just go to the website and get the most updated driver for your model, delete the printer from your printers and faxes or printers and devices folder and start the install. Follow along with the prompts until it completes and ask for the test page at the end. You'll need to use a USB cable temporarily to complete the install and then you can go wireless.

pkponder, I tried doing as you suggested; and to my chagrin I cannot uninstall the program for the X5100 - the printer that I replaced years ago.
A test page is in queue apparently since 2011!
The message is displayed with all four USB ports free.
The display assures me that the program will uninstall as soon as the print job is completed.
Since I have no way of printing the test page, I am stuck.
What now? Something seems wrong in the computer itself.

I can help with that too.
I will assume that this is Win XP
Open a command prompt. Click Start and then Run, Type cmd and press Enter
confirm that you are at a prompt that reads C:...if you are at C:\Documents and Settings\your user name..you simply need to type 'cd .' without the quotes, tap enter and repeat the step until you see only C:\
Type in cd system32 and press Enter
Type in cd spool and press Enter
Type in cd printers and press Enter
Now that you are in the correct directory, type the commands
net stop spooler and press Enter
del *.* and press Enter (there is a space between del and the first asterisk)
You will get a message asking that you confirm...press Y for yes
Type net start spooler and press Enter and you are done

This will clear the local printer queue and should allow you to delete the printer.

Note***this command will work in Windows 7 or 8 also, but the path to find Run (and the command prompt) are slightly different.

I believe with Windows 7 you simply tap the Start button then type cmd - this will appear immediately above the start button, hit Enter

Windows 8, be on the start page and type cmd - you will see it in the top left corner, click on it. Done.

Either way, once done follow the rest of Pam's suggestions.

Hello Pam, I hope that you will yet check today - because the news is all good. I followed your instructions but had to 'deep clean' the printer head before the test page printed faithfully. I just now finished.
My problems with digital hardware and software are all 'operator related'. There was one single case of 'equipment failure' - the fuse on the power supply cord of my GPS went out.
Let me invite you and owbist to bring your plant and gardening questions over to the plant forums.
And once again, thank you both for your time and attention.
