You are on IE 6????

When You uninstall IE7 through the control panel you are automatically rolled back to IE6 (ready for IE7).

Albeit it is not the IE6 you are used to feeling warm and fuzzy about...but that's what you got. At best you can possibly do a repair. You have to change some registry entries...I couldn't even find them with "CNTRL F". Other than that your only other option is to start all over again with your start up disk that came with your computer or purchased XP. That's it.

Might be able to reinstall xp's Service Pack 2 which should reinstall ie6.

...but I suspect that Microsoft intentionally leaves behind certain pieces of IE7 -- non-visible "improvements" -- and this will continue to cause problems, regardless. I installed IE7, had problems, rolled back to IE6, but it's slower now. It looks like my old IE6, but doesn't function as well. I think the "rollback" gets you to a pre-IE7 state...maybe about an IE 6.5! I could be wrong, but I know others who have had this problem. That's why I switched to a browser that I think is faster and better: Opera.

It wouldn't let me, should I uninstall Sp2? Then try...they will not, so far, under any circumstances let you reinstall IE6. Its like this death sentence. They are unmovable once you have the IE6 rollback. Its start from scratch or nothing...that's what Charter told me, and they are far from the last word. But Microsoft will not let me redownload or repair IE6. End of story, goodbye, the end!

I'm in the same situation. I was disatified with IE7 and just removed it.

If you like I can email you an ie6setup.exe file.

I just emailed it to myself with OE. Had to hit Tools > Options > Security > uncheck "Do not allow attachments that may be harmful....." or it will reject the attachment.

You might could install this and then update it but I dunno how that would go. I don't remember ...seems like I installed it then had to update it. Couple years ago on a W98 machine. Its version 6.0.2800.1106

If you type ie6setup.exe into google there wil be a bunch of sites with possible work-arounds for downloading and installing ie6. I didn't follow them thru tho - just glanct at em.

They won't let ya. I tried to download and install seven ways to Friday IE6, because my IE 6 rollback has so many problems...and every time I tried I got this message saying that I have the most up to date recent and complete IE6 available...adios! I get the download but when I'd try to install...no way, no way would they replace it. There's a hot key in the registry that needs changing...but I can't find mine. It could be that I'm just real stubborn and stupid which is true...but when I tried to do a system restore..IE 6 decided to rename all my files. I had a mess. I had to redownload my Norton Security Suite, reset everything for Morrowind ...maybe my hotkeys got switched around too...talk about me getting mad. Nothing could call anything up because the exe. files had been renamed...it was horrible. Oh well thanks for the thought. That was nice gesture, whether it was directed at me or not...thank you!

I did this 3-18-05 on a W98 reformated. My 1999 version of plain old W98 came bundled with IE4 which was by now disfunctinal. This method did work for that and possibly might be worth a try on your outfit.

My only other question will this remove the problematic security that came with IE7 and rollback IE6?

But either way...it would be a lot easier than starting over.

This is so trite..but everyone that plays Morrowind is suffering CTD's (Crash To Desktop) within around an hour play. Morrowind has a history of CTD's, but especially now, its like every ten minutes because Bethesda (game maker) didn't author the mods. Part of the game is modding and there's a huge modding community that offers up about a thousand or more changes, free, to players through Planet Elder Scrolls. I've never come across a virused mod and they check them pretty carefully before they wind up on File Planet (mod downloader)...I always scan my downloads before I install them, I unblock them and Microsoft,recently, is just having fits that the new tapestry I wsnt to put in my game didn't come from Bethesda!

MY IE 6 is just ohhh man really screwed up. If I make a mistake...I'm done for. I feel too stupid.

I can't do system restores either, Windows renames just about every file I own upon completion of the restore...that's a mess and half. So maybe I'd just better start over.

I am going to download and a keep a copy of nlite, from what little I've read...it handles lots of things I really don't need or want or use on my computer. Instant Messenger being just one of the space and power gobbling programs I didn't ask for.

nLite is very good idea and a great program, especially in the face of Microsofts often immovable position they have concerning some of their software. It is a keeper...even though 'm a little sheepish about getting my feet wet.
