I use AVG Free version. I have had some issues with Norton and McAfee on my Lenovo notebook, but not on my desktops. On my clients networks we use Trendmicro or Norton Endpoint Protection. They both seem to work fine.

i have a Gateway Windowns 98
installed:Super Antis:free edition &
Spybot" free edition.
I am just concerened these is not strong enough to protect my computer? Are they?

AVG, Avast or Avira are all about as good as each other and all are free. Be sure with AVG to stay on the free side or you will get the trial version that is not free.

How about the ones i already have?
Are they as good?
I have:"Spybot" & "Super Antis.free"
Are the free protections as good as the ones you buy?

If you mean by 'Spyware' you mean Spyware Search and Destroy then it is a good program. BUT it is not an anti virus program, it searches for Trojans. Also Superantispyware is an anti Trojan program and not anti virus. Both are very good but do not work automatically. You need to update every few days then run a scan.

Ok,so i am in process of buying a good Anti Virus,which would you recommend?
I was not happy with Norton,my friend has:"Wewroot",never heard of it?Any good?

you have windows 98 the most important factor is one that will still work with windows 98. Not all will.

I would not buy one either I would use one of the free ones I personally use AVAST and like it a lot, used to use AVG but not anymore.

AVAST does work on windows 98 this is the system requirements

that is the download page with instructions, you will need to do a registration they will email you the key to keep your copy running you have to do that once a year but it is free.

If you currently have Norton or other antivirus on your pc you will have to remove it completely prior to installing your new antivirus program, you should not have more than one antivirus program, you can have more than one anti spyware. Each has their own removal tool to help you get all the bits off your pc. Here is a guide to many of the antivirus removal tools.

The superantispyware is an excellent program and you should definitely keep it, update it weekly and run a scan each week.

I think what you meant your friend has is webroot that is also an anti spyware program, I would not pay for it when you can get superantispyware free and also malwarebytes antimalware free which is a super program.

Owbist did not say they were not good he was explaining they are not antivirus programs they are antispyware programs, what you said you need is an antivirus program.

yes you definitely need to remove THE ANTIVIRUS program from your pc before installing a new ANTIVRIUS program you can not have more than one.

If you had Norton you will need to go get the removal tool on the list I provided and follow their directions to get it off your pc, Norton is one that deeply inserts itself and can be hard to remove.

You do NOT have to uninstall or get rid of superantispyware or spybot search and destroy those are NOT antivirus programs they are antispyware programs.

So i am ok with what i have,spybot and super antis.no need to remove these two?

Yes, keep the 2 programs you mention. Avast is linked below for you to download.

You will be required to register Avast within 60 days, no big deal

But you have to remove the Norton first before you install the AVAST! You can download the AVAST then remove your Norton and then do the install of the AVAST.

If you feel that you need more information on current feelings towards anti virus protection perhaps a search using the search engine on the forum's homepage with the words "free anti virus" (sans quotes)will supply many answers. "Best" questions appear here at the forum regularly.

kasperspy is quite good, people mainly say avg because it use to be good a while back when it first came out and it attracted a huge user base with it's free version.

I hope you uninstalled Norton Anti Virus first before installing Avast running 2 Anti Virus Programs will slow the pc to a crawl and possible other problems.

AVG v8 is still a fine AV. Grisoft's problem was they combined two applications; AV and spyware, and added a link scanner all at once without proper testing. Those issues have been resolved.

If you wish to view passed and current test results of most purveyors take a look at the site below. The reliable and trusted site just requires you to register for access to the reports.
