All three of the A's (Avast (the one I use), Avira, or AVG)are known to be a good choice, pick one and see what works best for you. Jyust make sure whatever one you choose you download it from the actual website and remove whatever your using now via the dedicated removal tool for your current antivirus.

i just put avg free on my vintage desktop. system specs say the avg is using about 500 meg of ram. avg.exe, avg.sss, avg.xxx. 4 actually i think? i have no other programs on computer. just use it for internet stuff. got it for $20. has dvd player but no dvd decoder. seller was cheap

AVG had a history of high memory use, not sure about it's current status.
I've used both Avast & Avira and liked them both.
The only reason I went from Avira to Avast is because of Avira's nag screens, but they stopped doing that.

We went over this a bit a few weeks ago actually - try some kind of search on the site for antivirus, etc.
There were links to write-ups there and so on.

Any one of the three Free A's would be just fine.

I went from Norton that let a virus in, to AVAST (free), then after a couple of years decided to subscribe and they gave me a very reasonable rate for 2 years. Have renewed once without a problem.

I like Avast (free) and Microsoft's Security Essentials or if you have Windows8, Microsoft's Defender is already included.
