Good morning all,

I am currently AGONIZING over the whole CornuFe vs. Lacanche thing. Have been scouring the threads like a maniac and am hoping the right answer will come to me in a vision. Still have not been able to get in touch with AC re: the Lacanche but hopfully that will be remedied soon! DH and I are copying/stealing/paying homage to the classic white Christopher Peacock scullery kitchen w/Statuary marble counters (still not sure of cabinet company but that is for another post.) We had originally thought 48 inch wolf/viking range but I have fallen in love with the french. Anyhoo my quesiton re: you lacanche CornuFe lovers is what color did you choose and why - do you regret it? Wish you had gone in a different direction? I am scared that I may tire of the color but can't see myself going stainless.Pictures would be magnificent if you have them - couldn't find many on the FK forum. Thanks do much for any help/advice you can offer me.

I have a Lacanche in the French Blue. I absolutely love it. No regrets. DH chose the color, I wanted ivory as I was going for a more neutral, feel. My cabinets are painted ivory, as are the walls, and we have cherry counters. The blue in the stove really just makes it the heart of the house without screaming "NOTICE ME!" The blue is actually quite neutral, yet still definitely a color. It's the perfect accent in my kitchen. And it's a color I'll never tire of.

Thank you Pirula, I love what you say about making it the "heart of the house". b/c our cabinets will be white and our marble will be primarily white we thought we might charcoal wash the floor in a similar hue as the range. We also thought about painting the armoire for our fridge (we are completely recessing the fridge -(leibherr we think) the same color.

I have had a SS Kitchen Aid warming drawer for over two years now. It is completely stainless inside and out. It came with several NSF pans with lids and a shelf so you can stack plates or dishes. It has several settings and a moist or dry feature. The hottest setting is too hot to handle dishes without protective pads. The lowest setting is probably around 75F or proofing temp. I have put many breads and dough in it to proof and it worked fine. I put my drawer in the top position in a drawer base with two deep drawers underneath it. I have a granite counter, so when I have guests, I turn on the warming drawer and put the plates ON the counter. The plates will warm from the granite being warmed. It's much safer than having guests handle plates possibly being too hot. I have a lot of family here and we often eat at our home several times a month. I use that drawer all the time. I can cook ahead and get the kitchen cleaned up. All we have to do is pull out heated pans when everyone arrives. I cannot tell you how great that is if you've cooked a huge pan of BBQ and beans. Everything stays the perfect temperature. If I know someone will be home within the hour or so, I will use the drawer to keep food hot. If they're going to be longer then I will refrigerate food and they can nuke it in the microwave. I kept my eyes on eBay and found a brand new Warming drawer here in town for sale. The box was messed up and they said it had a scratch on it. I couldn't find a scratch anywhere on the thing. I also got this drawer for a whopping $300. AND it was brand new. I would most definitely buy one again. FWIW: My SIL has a Frigidaire WD in the bottom of her range. She doesn't use it. She's tried and she's spilled things trying to bend over and put dishes in the drawer. She would much rather have my set up.

1. Sink reveal, and why; We wanted a slightly positive reveal b/c we didn't want to have to feel under the edge or crane our necks looking under it to see if it was dirty (remember, dirty water/food splashes up) and b/c I had heard that some people have broken glasses or other dishes when taking things out of the sink along the edge of the sink...forgetting there was an overhang to go around. However, we ended up w/a zero reveal, which is OK, along the sink curves and a very slightly negative reveal on the straight sides...not what I wanted! 2. Sink edging--bullnose, pencil, etc. (for granite) and why; Our sink edging matches the rest of the counter...eased. No extra cost plus I wouldn't want a "fancy" edge for food, etc. to get caught on. I think a non-eased edge is a case of form over function...which is OK if your kitchen is a showcase kitchen rather than a working kitchen (or if you don't mind the extra work, etc. and really prefer form over function for a working kitchen) 3. And did you do the same for your bathrooms? Our Powder room has an Ogee edge along the outside of the countertop and on the backsplash, but an eased edge w/a slight negative reveal around the sink.

I have the exact tiny corner microwave (Whirlpool) that you posted. It's a stop gap for us until we redo the kitchen. It's ok. Be aware that it's designed for warming up a dinner plate of food, nothing much bigger will fit. I can fit my Corningware 2.5 qt casseroles but not the larger/flatter 10x10 (plus handles) dish. If you use those stand-up packages for rice etc , those are too tall for the cavity. I haven't tried popcorn in it. It does baked potatoes surprisingly well but I only ever do two at most. As ILoveRed said, it moves around every time you open and close the door. It does help to have it "pinned" into a corner lol. I hope this is helpful, you didn't mention how you use a microwave. The GE one you show looks like it has a little more power 800 vs 750 watts but on the GE you can turn off the turntable and thus (I believe) be able to put a larger dish inside.

We recently went from being able to recycle virtually everything to recycling only clean cardboard, cereal type boxes, glass bottles and plastic jugs. Can't recycle paper egg cartons, shredded paper, plastics, or metal. We can take metal to the transfer station-others have described theirs and ours is like that. Used motor oil, electronics, scrap metal, etc. Apparently we shipped our recycling overseas and they won't take it any more. So it breaks my heart to throw away stuff I used to carefully recycle. And to think I was going to take the Master Recycler course! I try to reduce and reuse as much as possible now. We have curbside recycle, garbage and lawn debris pickup, and they provide covered rolling bins. Recycling is every other week. No requirements to bag things-so we can just put things in the cans. I use 13 gallon plastic bags in the kitchen-unfortunately we have a lot of waste, with the cats and DH's work, so we have 2 large cans each week and our recycling is overlowing. I use small bags for lining the non-wet cans (bathrooms, my office, bedroom) and I also bought a package of very small bags-about 4 gallons-for cat boxes. Our town has banned single use plastic bags so I try to reuse whatever plastic bags come with things. I've always done that anyway-but it's even more prized to get a bag in something. Our local garbage goes to an incinerator. Surrounding towns go to landfills. I have spoken with landfill managers and apparently the trash bags for household use break down pretty quickly under the heat and pressure in landfills. Yes, I know they're petroleum products, but there is a lot of other really nasty stuff in landfills. The water (leachate) in newer landfills is treated and released to streams. It's actually cleaner than the stream it discharges to! Waste management has come a long way-but there is a LONG way to go.

I have a burgundy cluny. We named her Julia after Julia Child. Whenever someone new sees her, they just stop and run their fingers over her. No regrets what so ever.

(Hi Ivette!!! :^)) I, too, looooved my navy blue French range. I turned it over to a new owner ywo years ago, and she is in love with it too. It absolutely made my last kitchen sing. BTW--The kitchen sold the house in two days! And I worried a quirky range would put off a buyer...no problem. Get what makes your blood rush.

I just returned from the Lacanche factory in France week before last and found the many colors real standouts. I own burgundy, but would be pleased to have a half-dozen other colors, including classic black.

I saw a deep blue (don't know the color name) and copper trimmed CornuFe with a cooper hood a few days ago at a kitchen design store and it was also a beautiful piece. Don't know much about the brand, however.

I don't think these French range colors ever go out of style or get tiring; they are unique pieces, subtle or prominent, that stand the test of time. Not for everyone's taste for sure, but you know when you are in love.

With Ivory and marble, I could see Lacanche's French Blue, Marron Glace, Delft Blue, Black, Provence yellow, Porto Blue or Terracotta, depending on whether you want bold or subtle elegance.

The Lacanche Cluny I saw was Classic Black. It was elegant and timeless and would look great with ivory and marble. I saw the CornuFe in Provence blue and it was very pretty. I say go with whatever color you love. Whichever color you select, your range will be the centerpiece of the kitchen and everyone who sees it will fall in love too!
