talk to me about compost bins in the kitchen
Comments (37)I use a stainless canister with a lid which I keep on the counter. I empty it everyday. I rinse it out, wipe it with a paper towel, which then goes in the very bottom of the canister, making it fairly easy to clean. I opt for a small compost canister, a small trash can and a small recylce bin. If it is small it will get emptied everyday and that will keep the odor in check. Taking out the compost, trash and recycling is just part of a daily routine; trash and re-cyle to bins during first morning dog walkies, compost to bins on the way to the barn to feed. Re the outside bins, I have 3 big locking bins which I cycle through. I do add manure, leaves, shredded newspaper(our local paper uses soy ink)and already working compost, as well as kitchen scraps. Yes the working bin is frozen, but a good thaw and things will start brewing and what now looks like a frozen sculture of garbage will be turned into black rich earth. You just gotta love it....See MoreTalk To Me About Tuesday
Comments (31)I didn't read all of the responses above so i apologize if i am repeating anything. I had never been to a TM but saw an add a few years ago on HGTV so I went on-line to see what it was about. I ended up signing up for some on-line mailing list and occasionally received specials on=line. I was looking for new bedding and a pretty DKNY set popped up in the mailing so I purchased it. It definitely is not the best quality, ( i had seen the set in the bigger stores a few months back) but for what I paid for it (I think i paid less than $200 for a king comforter two pillow shams and a bed skirt.) I didn't care. About a year ago i realized there was a store near me and i had been dying to go b/c of my previous purchase. When i went and walked in i stayed about 2 sec. and walked out. It was so disgusting and TOTALLY not what I had expected at all. I still get the occasional sale promo on-line and occasionally look at it, but I will never go into the store again. So i guess the moral of the story is if you see something on-line you like at TM purchase it there. The shipping fee i worth the cost of not dealing with going to the store.. Comments (48)Hmm...great question! There are some here I would have to say 'ditto' to, but that's redundant so I'll say this for myself: I can't abide graphic sex or violence. I love to read children's books...they actually inspire me in many ways. I have certain times and places to read different genres: mysteries at night in bed or on rainy days while (locked) in my car at the lake, historical fiction and uncomplicated and light-hearted reading in the hammock rain or shine, devotions in my club chair next to the front window, magazines on the front porch with a note pad and pen to jot down ideas I get from them, paperbacks of short stories in the car parking lot while waiting for husband to run his errands and yes, I do read in the bathroom! I look up books on amazon.com, ebay and then try to find them at the library if I think I don't want to own the book...I do buy lots of books both new and used; however. I don't like to lend my books out to anyone...I've lost some irreplaceables that way. I write in all my books...favorite sentences, paragraphs, dialogue, etc. I use my stack of books as a coffee cup 'coaster' and have some rings on the covers, but I never turn down the corners, although I do turn fold the pages in on themselves for quick reference and I LOVE to make and use bookmarks...they are 'art' to me. I never read without a cup of coffee or iced drink nearby...an afgan just in case it's chilly and I always kick off my shoes before opening a book to read. I have many fictional 'friends and advisers'...oh gosh, I could go on and on about this, but I have got to get to the end of this book I'm reading right now...so, later! nola_anne...See MoreTalk To Me About Beautiful Entryways
Comments (11)Can you take a photo from the door or get some lights in there so we can see better? The floor looks really nice and if it's original I would clean it up and keep it if it is in usable shape. As apple_pie_order said, if the glaze is gone, they will be hard to use. I don't know if they can be reglazed? As for the entryway itself, that chandelier looks very cool. I'd keep that. You could put a large round table underneath it or a bench/table and large mirror on the wall where that furniture is. A coat rack on one side of the door and a holder for umbrellas on the other....See MoreDLM2000-GW
