why I don't have roses blooming
Comments (7)Oh Jean! I know what you are going thru here. I rarely catch the little B!&@#%$ in the act, but they are here more than ever before and the repellent spray just isn't stopping them anymore. I was blaming the fires for them being so bold and eating everything in sight, but now I'm thinking it's the vegetables that I planted in huge pots at the side of the garage that's attracting them in more. That's where they hit the worse. Time to toss them out and see if that will maybe lessen their visits. Next yr, I'm going to seriously work on a solution to these varmints. I plan to put up tall conduit post with holes drilled and I'll run heavy gauge wire thru them around the perimeter and hang reflective ribbons allover. Hopefully that will stop them from coming in to the yard. Then I might add a "Scarecrow" motion-detected sprinkler to a couple of spots in the yard too. But this season, I have too much going on to take the time now to get that all set up. It's very aggravating tho having to deal with these pests, isn't it??...See MoreBathrooms for children I don't have...
Comments (32)I have two daughters under the age of ten, and we recently did a minor remodel of their bathroom. The MOST important thing I wanted for their bath were one handled lever sinks, like that Kohler one in the commercial. Little kids will turn on the hot water knob and scald themselve-it's easier for them to adjust the one lever than to try and remember which knob is the hot water and the cold. Plus they tend to just turn on and off the lever and not move it from side to side anyway so it's always on warm. The other thing we did was put in a speckled blue corian counter top. I think it was called Mediterranean, anyway, it's EXCELLENT at hiding toothpaste. My kids are kind of messy and I was so sick of always seeing white and blue toothpaste all over the place every morning. The corian totally hides it! If you can do a deep tub, it'll keep more of the splashes in. You can sit on a stool to wash them. We've had some major water spillage when they splashed too much in the shallow tub......See MoreHave: chorizo Don't Have: a clue....
Comments (13)These are really good! Chorizo and Shrimp Quesadillas with Smoky Guacamole 2 ripe Haas avocados 1 lime, juiced A couple pinches salt 1/4 cup sour cream, 3 rounded tablespoonfuls 2 chipotle peppers in adobo, available in cans on specialty food aisle in Mexican section 1/2 pound chorizo sausage, sliced thin on an angle 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus some for drizzling 1 clove garlic, cracked away from skin and crushed 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails removed, ask for easy-peels at fish counter Salt and freshly ground black pepper 4 (12- inch) flour tortillas 1/2 pound, 2 cups, shredded pepper Jack cheese Cut avocados all the way around with a sharp knife. Scoop out the pit, then spoon avocado flesh away from skin into a food processor. Add the juice of 1 lime, a couple of pinches salt, sour cream and chipotles in adobo. Pulse guacamole until smooth. Transfer to a serving bowl. Heat a 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Brown chorizo 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from pan. Add oil, garlic, then shrimp. Season shrimp with salt and pepper and cook shrimp until pink, 2 or 3 minutes. Transfer shrimp to a cutting board and coarsely chop. Add a drizzle of oil to the pan and a large tortilla. Cook tortilla 30 seconds, then turn. Cover 1/2 of the tortilla with a couple of handfuls of cheese. Arrange a layer of chorizo and shrimp over the cheese and fold tortilla over. Press down gently with a spatula and cook tortilla a minute or so on each side to melt cheese and crisp. Remove quesadilla to large cutting board and repeat with remaining ingredients. Cut each quesadilla into 5 wedges and transfer to plates with your spatula. Top wedges of quesadillas with liberal amounts of smoky guacamole....See MoreBought 2 big paintings and don't know where they should go
Comments (32)Can you get us a couple more pix of the room so that we can see all four walls. Perhaps stand in the center of the space and shoot four pix, one looking in each direction? I think you can make use of the fireplace but the furniture isnt set up to do that right now. Hard to say, tho, if we don't know what is in the whole area. Before I would paint the fireplace, I would check into some kind of stain to darken the grout and alter the brick tone a bit. An all white fireplace doesn't seem to fit with your decor. As for the mantel, I think it is too large (top to bottom dimension) for the length of it. I would either put up something narrower, or run the wide mantel all the way out on both sides, back to the walls....See Morenini804
