They have a AntiSpywarePro as a paid version that runs full time. The freeware version only runs on demand.

You might take look at the free Windows Defender for full time main line spyware protection.

The free AVG anti-spyware doesn't show in the tray but does show up (greyed out) when there are updates to be done. I like AVG because it works well and is not intrusive. Sandy

While you're on the subject, may I jump in with a related question ?

I used to have AVG for AV, but it conflicted with another program. (It's been over two years, and I don't remember what the program was.) I now have avast! which works great.

I'm wondering if the AVG anti-spyware is known to conflict with any programs and if it's compatible with avast! as an AV program.

I have AVG-virus and downloaded the free AVG-anti spyware. In the tray I have the red-green-yellow& black icon with an S over it for the anti-spyware. I did the upgrade and a complete scan it was alot quicker than the SUPER-anti spyware. I,m sure I downloaded the free one guess I will find out in 30 days.

The free version runs all the time but this is for updates and does not offer real time protection, the free version is a 30 day trial after 30 days the updates would stop----These programs are nice free versions I like to download then once a month run the scan and uninstall them they end up running in the background not doing anything--unless you go with a paid version, below is what avg-anti spyware looks like running in the registry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [!AVG Anti-Spyware] "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\avgas.exe" /minimized

This is from my machine after 30 day's I think the updates will stop but I bet this process (avgas.exe) will continue to run doing nothing but taking up memory and at that time I would uninstall it to stop the process from running. I'm sort of testing it when the square with the s on goes black meaning no more up dates time to uninstall the free version.

However, the way I read it, you do not understand AVG.

The free version runs all the time..and the updates are
free and do not stop after 30 days.
I've used the program for years on many computers.
Very good Antivirus protection.

The AVG anti spyware does work all the time. But, unlike the AVG Antivirus, there is no resident shield in the tray. When your 30 days is up the ghosted shield will only appear when updating is needed. Its a good reminder to do a scan then too. Sandy

I stand corrected the AVG Antispyware(free version) does offer real time protection for 30 days and updates, after 30 days those features are disabled.

I have used AVG AV for years, also have and use Avast on my PC they do not conflict and work well together, and for Spyware, I use sQusi also a FREE download, I run it to scan after leaving the internet, it runs super fast and removes spyware...it is also on my taskbar along with AVG and Avast icon. AVG and Avast update daily..

I've had Zone Alarm Antispyware on my computer for some time. I just checked and it says update service expires in 299 days.

susieq07, Are you running 2 anti virus programs Avast and Avg? this is not recommend, and does not offer additional protection.

Bob I think you must have signed on for the free anti spyware bit Zonealarm offered a few weeks ago. I did and mine expires in 299 days too. Need to decide if I will fork over the $30 renewal fee.
