Cheap bathroom almost done (PICS)

Well, I posted here a few months ago with my ugly (but in good shape) bathroom:

Took some advice here so far we re-tiled:

'cheap' marble tile:

'cheap' ceramic.

I think it's coming along great...

What do folks think???

It doesn't look cheap to me. It looks like it is going to turn out to be very elegant. Can't wait to see it finished.

Wooo!!! Cat, I am stuck at home because of the snow storm so wandered around here not looking at anything in particular and came upon your thread. I totally agree with you on the shower curtain choice. Regardless of whether I have the money to spare or not, keeping those suckers clean is a nuisance over time. We have a glass shower door that was installed back in 2003 and I can't tell you how much I hate cleaning it. Not that the door is all that dirty, but a shower curtain is way easier, and you can change the look/style whenever you feel like it. Can't do that with a pricey shower door. Anyway, everything looks lovely as usual, including the "prom" dress :-) Love, love those circular tiles, and the floor tiles that look like fabric. Gorgeous. What colour is that again? It looks greyish on my monitor.

I think you'd better get used to providing info -- your bathroom has a lot of nice details that work together to make it seem larger/wider -- the large format tiles on floor and walls, the horizontal band, etc! [I would have guessed at least 6 feet wide, and as someone with a 10 x 6 I feel qualified to guess, ha.] It'd be great if you could post your bathroom on this other GW thread for posterity.... firsthouse -- thank you! the walls were really supposed to be light gray... I don't think the paint was mixed correctly. I'm living with it for now -- I like the blue but really wanted very light gray... Lizabeth -- thanks so much! i found the blue accent tile quite by accident in a local tile store. i was looking for subways and found those blue accents. i have no idea who made them and the order form only has a number. i immediately loved them. I had no idea what I wanted as accents until i saw them and then held them up a hunk of blue pearl which I had already purchased for the counter. Total accident - or fate! i will try to call and ask about them for you this weekend. PinchMe -- sorry I didn't see your post till today. The mirror is a "venetian style" mirror that I purchased locally but I have seen them online too. I just wanted something really different, sparkly and sort of focal. My home is a small bungalow and this bathroom is in a hall off the dining room. If I have "dining room dinner guests" they can see that wall of the bathroom from the table. I wanted something that would look pretty from the dining room view. I so appreciate all the comments! My favorite thing of all is the glass door knob! I did my kitchen in 7/08, where I have 3 doors and I started with the glass door knobs then... slowly replacing doors and knobs through the house. I think I've become a door knob freak! Really, I just love them! OK, I'm very happy with my new bathroom, everything -- but I so love my glass knob! Haha!

Hi diymadness, I love your budget makeover. There are some great ideas there and everything looks so good. I love the shelves and painting the vanity was a great idea. I wanted to mention something that I had not known about until someone pointed them out to me here on this forum and I have found them to be great. Just thought that I would mention them because in your window photo it looks like the crank gets in the way. These t-cranks are great and inexpensive.

I need to take and post some more pictures.

Everything is grouted (is that a word?) and boy it looks real nice.

We have the shower curtain up and the shower head and what not up now. It's now usable. I thought the marble tile might be too dark for this small of a bathroom, but it really looks good - very luxurious (making the rest of the house seem NOT SO luxurious!!):)

The wooden 'accents' are gone - thankfully... I've purchased brushed nickle 'accents' and I'm happy with them - boy those puppies aren't cheap either!

Toilet is gone - new one is not in yet... (thank goodness for a half bath!!) I DID go with the Cadet... I'm worried about the startle factor... anyone have any thoughts...?

I AM having trouble finding the 'right' counter/vanity top. I really like my 'pump' fixture so we'll be keeping that - BUT it's a 4" fixture - and now a lot of the bathroom vanity tops are 8" fixture (holes). I did find one at a discount box store - Grossmans - it was granite and 4" holes for the fixtures, AND it was 37" wide but the width was 19"!! I need something in the 22" range! Does anyone have any thoughts regarding vanity/counter tops?? I'd like to be in the $150-$200 range for this... Thoughts?

May I ask the name of your floor tile? Speaking of cheap (which your bathroom does *not* look like) I'm considering a tile from Lowe's and it looks rather similar to your floor tile.

Bravo! Keep up the good work!

Have you looked into getting a countertop made from a remnant at a granite place? Might work with your budget.

What a great bathroom. Like weedyacres posted above, I got a BEAUTY of a granite top for my BR vanity by using a remnant. It was only $300 for a piece of Blue in the Night granite and another $100 for the sink (undermount) and install. Check around at different shops...If I got a granite top and sink from HD or Lowe's, it would be closer to $1,000.

looks really beautiful. I'm doing the same right now. Keep the pictures coming!!

I would also suggest a granite remnant. You'll have to still find a base but would go well with the shower tile.

One thing I've learned, the price of the materials are nothing if the installation isn't well done. Yours looks great. Can't wait to see it finished.

So paint is done - new commode, new vanity lights, mirror...

All's left is the rad, baseboard/trim, painting, toilet seat cover (don't ask!), and putting up the accessories (I think)!
